The inspiration for this thread came from some comments in the LOL pic thread.

Feel free to add

Hahaha, thanks for making me feel like a dinosaur! Those are 8 track tapes. My first car had a 8 track player.

I yanked it out and tossed in a Jenson with cassette player. I was the man then!

Get off my lawn! 8 track tapes! Damn I feel old. I guess you don't remember when you actually had to go to the bank and deal with tellers before money came out of machines...

I have a bank book somewhere that the teller would actually hand write the amounts and balances in it.

I think we need an old people's thread....

$0.35 for a slice of pizza. $0.35 to get on the train or bus. And I remember the first time gas went above $1.00/gallon. The old pumps didn't go up that high and they were charging you by the half gallon.

My back hurts. Get off of my lawn!

You walked to school in the snow uphill? Had homemade clothes. Were told to come home when it got dark and were gone for entire day with no supervision. Disnt have video games.

you ran home after your mom sounded the "dinner horn"

Remember the days when we all walked five miles to school...uphill both ways...with snow up to our necks...in June?

In our area these days, the school bus will sit outside every kid's front door for 5+ minutes while they put their mittens on indoors for the frigid 55 degree outside temperature. Oh, and let's not forget the helicopter parents who drive their kids to/from school to spare them the trauma of a bus ride!

Get off my lawn, kid...and turn that noise that you call music DOWN!!!!!

(I propose that every post in this thread end with get off my lawn, to weed out the young 'uns posing as old farts.)

You're home all day doing nothing but still need a nap to wake up to keep doing nothing.

Had to be home when the street lights came on.

There was one phone in the house, a rotary dial in the kitchen with an 18" cord.....if you were lucky and wanted privacy it was near a door to another room so you could reach into the next room.

This. Walking to/from school, sometimes alone. Out all day without a phone or Mom even knowing where you were. Come home when it gets dark. Always playing some sort of sport with the neighborhood kids. Hardly any toys that couldn't be used outside. Milk deliveries, usually stacked between the main and screen doors. Paper routes. No one's mother worked. Three-on-the-tree gear shifting. Leaded gas. Penny candy stores where it really did cost a penny per piece. Cold beer was more expensive than room temp beer.

Street lights? Are you talking about the electric kind, or the gas ones that the street light lighter had to fire up late every afternoon?

I was walking to school when I was six, can you imagine that now? I can't remember getting a drive to school once in my entire life.

This seems like me every weekend when the girlfriend has her kids. I'll stay at her place Friday night. Saturday morning I go back home and find myself asleep on the couch before 10:00. Laundry, some cleaning, maybe a workout or a walk, then BAM!!! Back asleep on the couch by 2:00. I think sleeping 4-5 hours a night M-F catches up with me and by the weekend I'm spent.

Me, too! It was 1968, and my father took the old B&W TV out of the living room just as I was sitting down to watch Flipper. He had the new color TV hooked up before Flipper started, and it was the first show that I ever saw in color.
