Does anyone have experience replacing the black trim piece on the front bumper? This piece is typically where dealer-installed front license plate brackets are mounted. Here's a link to the part for context:

https://www.bmwpartshub.com/oem-parts/bmw-front-trim-51118099662?c=bD0xJm49U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHMmYT1ibXcmbz14NSZ5PTIwMTkmdD14ZHJpdmU0MGkmZT0zLTBsLWw2LWdhcw%3D%3D

I'm wondering if the piece will pop off cleanly using pry tools and some patience or if you need to remove the bumper in order to remove/replace it. Any help or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

someone purchased that trim off me and said it was really easy, like 15-20 minutes easy, but no details as to how. i don't remember his handle, unfortunately

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll post an update here after my attempt to let people know how easy or not the process is. Wish me luck. Haha

No, not yet. I have been busy with work and holiday travel and haven't had time to order the replacement part. I hope to get the part ordered in the coming weeks.

The wrap shop took off my front bumper and said the license plate piece was clipped in. Said a couple hours to take apart.

I was planning on replacing this piece on my G05 M sport because it has a rock chip golf ball dent that is easily spotted against the piano black. I did some searching but could not find out how to do this myself. Anyone know where I might be able to find a guide on how to do it?

Thank you in advanced! New G05 owner, used 2019 but new to me!

Sorry to resurrect this thread - any luck on doing this and how hard was it?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but any updates on how to install this trim piece? Thanks

You have to take the bumper off and work your way to that piece. Like the posters said above, a few hours work. I would start by looking up steps to take the bumper off. Once it’s off, you can see what needs to come off to access that piece.
But if it’s just clips then why take out the entire bumper? The other poster said 15-20 mins to do.
Hoping someone here already did this and let us know. Thanks

I recently did this and the bumper doesn’t need to be removed.

I’d love to know how. There are some solid tabs on the right and left side of the trim piece that look like they can only be accessed from the inside of the bumper (I.e., looks like the bumper has to be removed). Any description of the process would be very helpful.

I thought so as well but those tabs are not connected to anything.

I’ll need to sketch something up.

Also curious how to remove this trim. Do you have some time to sketch the instructions out? Tia

Hello, so just another one looking to replace this part. Any how to yet that someone can share? Many thanks!

Ok, Ok... message received lol
I tore this apart just so I can get detailed pictures for ya'll

Tools used:
Flashlight (because it was getting dark)
Pry tool (pictured)

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525351&stc=1&d=1723436397

1. Start by using the pry tool to remove the corner pieces. You can start in the corners marked by the blue arrows and pull from the inner depicted by the red arrows. You will want to pull at an angle to release the tabs. The first time is probably the hardest.
The Driver side inner piece comes out completely (Orange box). The Passenger side is a bit trickier and I didn't remove (both not needed to remove tbh). The Passenger side has a piece of plastic that looks like an arrow that keeps it attached to the bumper assuming because that is where the tow hitch hole is. It comes out, just takes a little more work but you don't need to fully remove it.

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525352&stc=1&d=1723436463

2. Here is the inside view of the corner trim piece. The three tabs on the right side of the picture are the three tabs you see on the prior picture that you should pry off first.
*edit. Another user said it’s easier starting at the bottom opposite corners that I had marked, moving counter-clockwise

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525354&stc=1&d=1723436491

3. Pull from the bottom on black trim piece
attachment.php?attachmentid=3525356&stc=1&d=1723436530
* You can see that the tab with round hole is just a locator. Nothing is fastened there

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525357&stc=1&d=1723436530

Here is a view with all of the clips

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525358&stc=1&d=1723436530

And the last (Passenger side) clip/retention tab is a bit tricky

Cont.
4. So I didn't get pictures of the sensor removal...
With the black license plate trim removed, you will see both of your sensors. There are TWO retention clips on the black trim that you will spread out to release the sensors. If you lose the black rubber gasket, just put it back on. The flat side goes against the sensor base and the grooved piece faces you.

Replacing the black piece

To put it back together, it is not reversal of steps entirely. Bear with me.

5. Put the sensors making sure the gasket is on the sensor and just tuck them in the cavity where you can get to them.

6. Snap the new black piece back in.

7. Using your hand, reach behind the black trim piece and snap the sensors back into place.

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525360&stc=1&d=1723436705

You should hear or feel two clicks but I just press in on the sensor and if it is loose or pops out a bit, I know it wasn't captured on both clips.

8. Install the side trim pieces. Start with the furthest side outwards, first. The inner tabs may need to be bent outwards to be engaged into the slots or the trim piece will jut outwards. If that happens, just yank and start over.

attachment.php?attachmentid=3525362&stc=1&d=1723436705

And that should be it!

You are a G05 god for sharing this! I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this with such detail. Thank you!!!

Been looking for this the center part as i have the M sport like you and found it used on eBay but most are scratched up. Mine just have 2 ugly holes in em from the dealer installing the plate :(.
Might have to bite bullet and get it new. Where did you get yours btw?
