Countless websites reported on Novak Djokovic smashing his tennis racket in frustration at the Wimbledon final last weekend.

In case you wondered who he is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novak_Djokovic

Thank you for bringing this up...yet another example of a fantastic athlete that also showed he has no class (although, unlike Max, he later apologized for acting like an asshole). They make the Kardashians look normal.

More opinions:

"This is like some 12 year old behaviour... how is this coming from a world champion F1 Driver."

"Typical Verstappen, unsportsmanlike as always."

"True colors."

"And this is the world drivers champion?. It’s sim racing what does it gain him to go off like this? It’s utter childish behaviour for a 2 world champion."

"Max being Max."

Schumacher:

Remember also the dark pages in the history book of Michael Schumacher's career. One of the greatest F1 drivers, true, but some unsportsmanlike conduct tainted his legend forever.

Sometimes some sneaky stuff, such as during the 2006 Monaco qualies: Schumacher DSQ'd by Race Stewards regarding the controversial qualification incident at the Rascasse corner. Former F1 pilot Mark Blundell about that Schumacher incident: "He's pure genius. But with many genius people there's this little blip now and again what happens and that's exactly what we had there with Michael."

Damon Hill's take on Schumacher, remaining quite polite about the unsportsmanlike way how Schumacher got the 1994 WDC title at his expense:

Jacques Villeneuve knew perfectly how Schumacher had violently snatched the 1994 WDC title chance away from Damon Hill (controversial WDC title of that "7-time WDC"). Villeneuve was warned how machiavellistic Schumacher could react when WDC stakes were high. And he was wise to anticipate.

Villeneuve (WDC) versus Schumacher (DSQ) - 1997 Jerez incident:

Senna:

Nov 1990: Senna denied to Sir Jackie Stewart that he had intentionally crashed into Prost during the Suzuka 1990 race. He had gone for a gap left by Prost. Senna told Stewart after wrapping up the interview that he would never talk to him again.

1992/1993: Senna called Stewart to admit/confess that he had crashed intentionally. Senna also befriended Prost, his longtime nemesis at the end of the season, got emotional during the last F1 race of Prost.

1994: Senna repeatedly called Prost to tell him how hard he missed him and how bored he was without racing him (Prost quit F1 at the end of 1993), confided his personal worries about F1 safety and told him many times how much he had respected him as a rival, more than any other driver he had ever competed with. Prost and Stewart were both pallbearers during Senna's funeral in Spring 1994.

If FISA/FIA would have known that piece of info about the Suzuka 1990 race, Senna would have been questioned by them and likely disqualified for the whole 1990 season, losing the 1990 world title to Prost (compare with Schumacher getting disqualified for the whole 1997 season after ramming into Villeneuve during the title-deciding Jerez/Spain race).

Denial (1990):

Admitted (according to Stewart):

"Jackie Stewart: Ayrton Senna said he’d never speak to me again after I accused him of crashing into Alain Prost to win the title"
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-2616036/amp/JACKIE-STEWART-Ayrton-Senna-said-hed-never-speak-I-accused-deliberately-crashing-Alain-Prost.html
"A year had passed since our [Nov 1990] interview, and I was in Australia for the grand prix when Senna called me. He was a deeply religious man and he said: “Look. I am phoning to apologise because I do now admit that I did take Prost off the road intentionally and God won’t allow me to live this lie. I am going to announce it to the media tonight, but I want you to be the first to know”.
We had a really good conversation on the phone and then he asked if there was any chance I could go over to his hotel and talk about how we could go forward because he wanted to improve safety in Formula One - he knew I had more experience on that issue than anyone else in the sport - so, I did. I went over to his room, and we spent more than two hours together.
I was taken aback, but I thought, “Wow, this is great” because he has finally owned up. The fact that he wanted to admit it, and get it out of his system and then take on safety with a new vigour which he had not done before, was a very positive thing. We were on the phone almost every week, twice-a-week in fact, after that conversation in Adelaide until he died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix."

How many "what-about-isms" do we need to be convinced Max acting like a sociopath is normal? I think he's most like the great heavyweight fighter, Mike Tyson. Mike and Max were both raised poorly with their only goal a narrow one that they both achieved but it didn't include being a good person...and sadly, for that they'll always be remembered.

3798j's user avatar3798j, it's of course none of my business what you personally think about Picasso and his works of art, but if you do not dislike him or his works of art, have a read here: "Conflicted art: how to approach works by morally bad artists" (May 2019):
https://www.artaesthetics.net/publications/2019/5/26/conflicted-art-how-to-approach-works-by-morally-bad-artists

This ain't no criticism of your point of view, but just trying to get the message across that, sometimes, there's a fine line between genius and insanity/madness. Talent hits a target no one else can hit - genius hits a target no one else can see; genius is more often found in a cracked pot than in a whole one.

Only if you're a butthurt Hamilton fan.
Then I can imagine this is about just as though to watch as Hammy not performing on track for the 2nd year and Max dominating the field....

But normal people just don't care about what happens in a computergame.
This thread isn't difficult to understand and it isn't about an incident in a computer game .
This thread is actually just another LEW fans vs MAX fans thread (in disguise)!
That's why this thread was posted in the first place...

In other words :
ButtHurt vs UnLeashTheLion

The guy in post #6 won $1 with our posts . Imagine ! He must feel rich now => https://www.m3post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=30317085&postcount=6

LMFAO !

I hink Max is safe from anyone complimenting Max of being anything other than a talented driver.

In 2021 hammy skipped the FIA's Prize-Giving Gala for the 2021 season.

A real world example of true unsportsmanlike like behavior :word:

The entire F1 world watched hammy disrespect an entire team :word:

Lewis and Max have that one thing in common. Poor sports, both of them.

Well said!

And just 2 weeks ago Hammy couldn't stop complaining about how bad his car was during the austrian GP, and his boss had to step in and tell him to shut up...
Can you imagine how embarrassed Toto must have felt with the constant moaning towards the sponsors who put hundreds of millions in the team....
I'm no armchair psychologist to analyze where this comes from etc, but if I had to summerize it, I would call it a spoiled little brat.
And then wanting a 250 million new contract with an ambassador role....
What kind of ambassador moans so hard that he has to be told to shut up?!?

I think these are bigger things (certainly with bigger stakes and efforts of a lot of people) than Max basically acting like a nascar driver in a videogame that nobody cares about.
So what if he rams some nerd off track in a videogame who rammed him first.
Some people apparently just don't understand the difference between videogames and the real world....:sigh:

At least we're now seeing calls for banning Max from iRacing. Something he deserves....but of course it's Max.

“A double Formula 1 world champion spotted leading by example and showing online racing community that 'an eye for an eye' approach is what maturity behind the wheel looks like."

“If anyone else did this they'd be banned but because it's Max Verstappen he'll get away with it again."

"“I swear you get banned from iRacing for behaviour like this? Or will he get away with it because he's Max Verstappen?"

“People have literally been banned for life from Esports for these kind of actions. But hey, it's 'F1 world champion Max Verstappen'. The only guy in the field who's main job is not sim racing but still reacts like that contact at t1 destroyed his career.”

I guess everyone is outraged and offended by every little thing these days.

When someone gets evidence of Max walking around kicking stray dogs I'll worry.
07-19-2023
There seems to be two themes in the defense of Max's actions. One is the proclaiming that being an asswhipe is fine if there's no harm done or that the event that it occurred in isn't important enough. The other defense of Max acting like an asswhipe is by naming other famous asswhipes...as if, "see it's OK to be a sociopath"...because look at all these other successful people that have the same personality flaw. The shallowness of these responses is remarkable.
