We’re excited to announce the launch of our first-ever wheel designed specifically for SUVs and EVs: the VS-5RX. This wheel shares many of the motorsport features seen on our Enduro Line, but has been specifically optimized to give SUV and EV owners street-oriented touches that don’t compromise on safety or performance. Designed using community feedback from a number of surveys and 1 on 1 new product requests, the VS-5RX is built for enthusiasts by enthusiasts to solve the needs of SUV and EV owners.

Before we get into the details of these new wheels, I did want to take a moment to thank everyone who completed the development survey or reached out asking about wheels for these cars. While the development did take quite some time, these wheels are a reality because of your requests and feedback. Special thanks goes out to our photoshoot volunteers who have already helped provide the on-car shots you’ll be seeing in this thread as well as the brake scan data used to shape these wheels.

I’ve talked to many of you on the phone, via email, and of course on the forums. Thanks for the feedback on these wheels so far. I hope you enjoy them.

Based on our forged enduro line, these wheels have both the load rating and the robust inner lip design needed to safely support the higher weights of these platforms without compromising the performance characteristics you’ve come to expect from Apex wheels. You can read more about the features of these wheels on our blog here.

Many BMW customers expressed a desire for lighter-weight wheels compared both against OE wheels as well as other aftermarket wheel options. While our primary focus with this wheel line was sufficient strength and durability, the efficiency of these wheel designs bourne from their initial design as a hardcore track wheel has resulted in an extremely lightweight product. As an example, our 21” X3M wheels are around 10 pounds lighter per wheel both front and rear compared to the factory 765M or 892M wheels. The Apex rear fitment for these wheels is also a half-inch wider than the OE 21” wheel.

The first round of development includes the following BMW chassis:
You can view shots of the X3M Shown above on 20s and 21s as well as another X3M on these wheels on our gallery page here.

In terms of fitments, we'll be offering 8 options initially:

These wheels will be produced in 3 finishes: Anthracite, Brushed Clear, and Satin Black. The narrower 9 and 10" wide wheels are optimized for the X3 and X4 while the wider 9.5 and 10.5" fitments are optimized specifically for the X3M and X4M. Mixing and matching can be done and these wheels also work on the G05 and G06 X5 and X6 as well as the G26 i4 which we recommend higher load rating wheels for. You can review our vehicle-specific fitment recommendations on our fitment guides here. An i4 specific product page and fitment guide will be available soon.

Original Thread:

Hey all,

Many of you are familiar with the wider survey we ran a while back to collect data. We’ve done a good amount of work since then refining a higher load rating wheel option for X3, X4, X5 and X6s, but we’d like to collect more feedback prior to production, this time specifically from SAV/SUV owners.

Survey has ended. Thanks for the feedback!

If you have any questions, feel free to post them below!

Really crossing my fingers that a good 19” or even 18” option comes to fruition out of this! Being able to fit a larger sidewall mild all terrain on these would be such a treat for forest roads and towing, especially with the OEM options in those sizes just being rather bland wheels design-wise. There just really isn’t any options for the 5x112 bolt pattern for something with a high load rating like there is for Cayennes where I came from previously.

X5 21-22 inch wheels would be sick to have.

We do not have any example photos yet, but we are hoping that people will send in photos of their cars on our wheels for gallery postings.

Hoping that people send some stuff in once they are fitted, we are just as excited as you!

Are 22 staggered being developed for the x5 x7?

Any photos to share of the 20" and 21" wheel options mounted to a X5?

Wow, how did I miss this sale?

Any chance you'll be making flow formed wheels for the X5? Love the look of the forged wheels and really want a set of 21s, but I don't think I can drop over $4k on wheels then another 2k on tires.

The main challenge with platforms like the BMW X5 is the overall weight and load requirements. Because of that, we do not currently offer flow formed options for these chassis.

Flow formed wheels typically cannot meet the higher load ratings needed for SUVs like the X5 while maintaining the performance and safety standards we aim for. That is exactly why we developed the APEX VS-5RX. It is a fully forged wheel designed specifically to handle the increased load demands while still delivering strong performance and durability.

We definitely understand the price difference is a big consideration, but for this type of vehicle, the forged construction is what allows the wheel to properly support the application.
