The dealer may do one a little early. It's based on time and or mileage . But I wouldn't count on them doing one at say 8,000 miles unless it takes you closer to the 1 year time-line. Unless say you only drive 5,000 miles a year. They would do an oil change at the 1 year mark regardless of miles.

I also have an oil extractor. Makes it really easy to suck out the oil. Has anyone done that? I did it on my 2017 MB GLE350. Worked great!
I haven't even checked but I presume the oil filter is up top toward the rear.

I've never used an extractor nor seen anyone do it on x5 but you could sure try it and let us know if it works or not.
Yes, the oil filter is on the driver's side rear corner.

So if you were to remove the valve cover that holds the oil cap where you would be adding oil you will see the internals of the head that holds the cams and valves. Going further, if you were to remove the head of the engine you would be in the engine block and expose the top of the pistons and cooling jackets.
Therefore, you can now picture that access to the oil pan is not achieved thru the oil filler cap.
Cars that have a dipstick have the dipstick tube going directly into the oil pan on the side of the engine block bypassing all of the above and giving you access to suck the oil form the pan where most of it reside.

But, probably no harm in not resetting it, especially if you are taking it to the dealer for the 10K/1-year oil changes.

I will be 0W40 in my 45e in next oil change , the first one out out of the included maintenance. The last dealer oil change was with 5W30 on the invoice. Compare to previous to that, dealer used 0W20, I do feel oil took a bit longer to warm up to 210F range. Engine
For my 2022 X5 xdrive40i the service dept at my dealership told me to always use 0W20. I'm at about 110k km's, have done oil changes prob every 5000-6000km, and always used whatever name brand was on sale, like Penzoil Platinum, etc. Never bothered paying twice the price for the 'Euro' LL versions that never seem to go on sale here (east coast Canada). Car still runs perfect.
Only real repairs I've had to do were front thrust/sway bars that had worn out. Otherwise its been oil changes, one time preventative spark plug change and diff/transfer fluid change, and replaced the pads and rotors myself.
