Ryan_gamage wroteThe 1200 mile break in service is just for the M cars. The mainstream cars you just want to wait till about 1,000 miles before really hammering on them but no service is called for unless you want to do an early change. The first oil change i see is at 10,000 mark. Will the dealer do the oil change before that ? Also is there anything called 1200 mile break in service? I saw few mentioned something like that but not sure how that works
The dealer may do one a little early. It's based on time and or mileage . But I wouldn't count on them doing one at say 8,000 miles unless it takes you closer to the 1 year time-line. Unless say you only drive 5,000 miles a year. They would do an oil change at the 1 year mark regardless of miles.
Hope that helps.

I also have an oil extractor. Makes it really easy to suck out the oil. Has anyone done that? I did it on my 2017 MB GLE350. Worked great!
I haven't even checked but I presume the oil filter is up top toward the rear.
Have a great week!

j22stl wroteI'm not sure yet. I didn't reset it due to still getting the free oil changes from dealer. Dealer told me not to reset while under the free maintenance oil changes so it doesn't upset the CBS system. How do you reset the oil mileage? Is it the same as the pre LCI? I’m getting ready to do my first DIY on the car next weekend - appreciate it!
Just Google it. I'm sure it's pretty simple and someone has to have a video on it.
thammel wroteAccording to the manual the mobile oil doesn't meet the required specs but if your waiting till 50,000 your out of warranty anyways and no worries using a different oil and them not honoring a claim. I'm sure it'd work as many go off the recommendations of the manual and don't have issues. You have plenty of time to research and decide for yourself if it's something you'd like to try. I'm on the fence if I would or not.Just got a 2025 X5xDrive 40i. I will do oil/filter changes at 50k miles and let the dealer do the 10k ones, as many of us do. I have a lot of Mobil 1 0w-40 oil left over from my prior vehicle. I'd like to use it for my changes. Hope that's not an issue.

I've never used an extractor nor seen anyone do it on x5 but you could sure try it and let us know if it works or not.
Yes, the oil filter is on the driver's side rear corner.
Bimmeragain wroteYes, that is correct! Is this the oil drain location?
thammel wroteTo use an extractor one would need a path to the oil pan. The B58 does not have a dipstick and you would not be able to use the oil filler cap nor the oil filter housing. Darn it. Well, I have a lift...makes it easier.

thammel wroteTom, good question you’re asking. So if you were to remove the valve cover that holds the oil cap where you would be adding oil you will see the internals of the head that holds the cams and valves. The head has very small holes for oil passages to lubricate the upper valve train. Why could I not use the oil filler cap to extract oil? Not sure what the pathway is.... Probably not a straight shot to the bottom of the oil pan.

Going further, if you were to remove the head of the engine you would be in the engine block and expose the top of the pistons and cooling jackets.
Therefore, you can now picture that access to the oil pan is not achieved thru the oil filler cap.
Cars that have a dipstick have the dipstick tube going directly into the oil pan on the side of the engine block bypassing all of the above and giving you access to suck the oil form the pan where most of it reside.
thammel wroteOil extractor will not work on the B58 as there is no dipstick to reach the oil pan.Just got a 2025 X5xDrive 40i. E60525d wroteI don’t reset it. I let the dealer do it when they do their change. After it’s out of the free service interval then i obviously reset it each time. For those doing 5000 mile interim changes, do you also reset the service schedule on idrive or leave it as it is and only reset it when you do the scheduled oil change?
E60525d wroteI reset mine every time - except for the rare occasions that I forget. It's now directly in my oil change notes, so I shouldn't forget ever again! For those doing 5000 mile interim changes, do you also reset the service schedule on idrive or leave it as it is and only reset it when you do the scheduled oil change?
But, probably no harm in not resetting it, especially if you are taking it to the dealer for the 10K/1-year oil changes.
LuckyBrand wrote30 is already pretty thin so I doubt you’d see any measurable mileage difference. Plus it’s a synthetic too. I would ask the dealership to use 30W at your regular oil change window though (If both 12 and 30 are approved for use)No. The level indicator worked fine and still shows good. Fuel mileage has stayed the same as with the 0w-12 as well. That's the one thing I thought may drop but it hasn't so in my opinion it's a win.
Any other questions feel free to ask.

This thread is over a year old as well when I made that statement.

I will be 0W40 in my 45e in next oil change , the first one out out of the included maintenance. The last dealer oil change was with 5W30 on the invoice. Compare to previous to that, dealer used 0W20, I do feel oil took a bit longer to warm up to 210F range. Engine

For my 2022 X5 xdrive40i the service dept at my dealership told me to always use 0W20. I'm at about 110k km's, have done oil changes prob every 5000-6000km, and always used whatever name brand was on sale, like Penzoil Platinum, etc. Never bothered paying twice the price for the 'Euro' LL versions that never seem to go on sale here (east coast Canada). Car still runs perfect.
Only real repairs I've had to do were front thrust/sway bars that had worn out. Otherwise its been oil changes, one time preventative spark plug change and diff/transfer fluid change, and replaced the pads and rotors myself.
