The style of play has definitely changed for the better IMO. This was clearly demonstrated with our Win in Boston while undermanned.
As long as returns in a month or prior to Playoffs...
mjr24 wroteThe problem with that is Luka has been very vocal about wanting to be a lifer in Dallas. He's never made any indication he didnt want to be there, and neither has anyone in his camp.Regular season wins mean zero until after the AS break. It's laughable that you guys can make any assumptions or views on the Mavs when Davis has played two quarters with them. That being said, I do think they will be better in the short term......not sure what that ultimately means as they overachieved last year in getting to the Finals.
It has been confirmed the Bucks were someone the Mavs also approached about a trade and they were obviously denied. They apparently approached the TWolves, too.
It's still probably not a great trade just because Doncic is 6 years younger and he isn't trying to be DeAaron Fox....Doncic takes his time and he uses that to his advantage. Jokic is obviously a prime example of guys who aren't in any rush and won't be winning any physique contests but they get the job done.
I suspect the Mavs were worried he would re-sign for the supermax and then demand a trade a year or two later. With current cap rules, it's not that easy to trade a supermax or any big contract and get much in return. The Bucks just experienced this with Khris Middleton. Ironically, the trade probably guarantees that Luka has a chip on his shoulder about his conditioning and never again is out of shape in his career as a result...

As for viewing the trade, you can grade the trade now, end of season, in 5 years, whenever, and its still a completely shit trade.
The Mavs got worse. Period. AD has missed over 1/3 of games the last few seasons and is 31. Last year was the healthiest he ever has been, missing just 6 games, and he was NBA 2nd team. Thats his ceiling. (in comparison, Luka has been NBA 1st team the last 5 seasons)
There are also rumors now that his latest injury will require season ending surgery. The Mavs roster was being dragged to wins by Luka. AD hasnt been that kind of guy in awhile. Kyrie can get hot at times, but isnt someone you can consistently count on to be the #1.
And for those that say AD brings more defense to the team than Luka ever did, last season, Luka had a 113.8 defensive rating per the advanced stats, AD had a 114.0.
TXSTYLE wroteDon’t get me wrong, I’m still sticking with my Mavs, but I’m definitely not happy with Harrison and management! I’m not giving up my 25 year old franchise player! I’m building around him! Granted we beat the Celtics and Rockets, and seem to be playing with a bit more energy….but that pace won’t be sustained with the number of injuries we have! Hopefully I’m wrong. All I know... Luka isn't lighting up the Stat sheets by any stretch. Meanwhile, Dallas is playing with an energy and pace that I've been waiting for!
And that's With 5 of our Best out.
I wish Luka success.
But, I'm rolling with my "Team" period.
GERMAN M3 wroteNot to mention the ones on his list, outside of Larry, werent exactly winning championships right out the gate. Kobe took 4 years and Jordan and Shaq both didnt win until they were 27.Exactly @Jared Sandler!! As I’ve stated before, it took Dirk Seven years before making his first NBA finals, and Twelve years to win his first! Sounds like Dumont is the clueless one!

mjr24 wroteFunny how everyone seems to assume the Mavs GM is an idiot for trading Luka.....but he was a genius last year. Who knows the inner workings of that team better than the current and future GM? I really think there was no way that Dallas was going to give Luka a Supermax deal no matter what. If he's as bad conditioning wise now as he is, what's his motivation when he gets another 5 years of max contract? Trade looks bad now, but like nearly every other trade in any sport we need to wait at least 3 years to see what happens. After thinking more about this trade....it's not a bad trade.
Luka is a great offensive player but he plays no D. Yeah, he can light it up if he gets hot....no doubt. However, guys like Giannis, Anthony Davis, they change the game completely on both ends....totally different level.
Dallas overachieved last year. They made the Finals but weren't some juggernaut. They weren't going to make it back this year as they were. They lucked out because MIN and OKC were inexperienced and DEN/LAL/PHO were injured, etc.
I get Luka is 25 years old....that's the hardest part to stomach. However, Kyrie is 32 years old....what's to stop Luka from demanding a trade in 2-3 years after signing a max deal if they can't find other people to put around him when Kyrie gets old?
They have 3-4 years to win with Kyrie and Davis...then they can get them off the books and start over if they need to. It's not a bad plan.
I think Harrison realized there were maybe 2-3 players in the league he would trade Luka for...and those players are HOF talent on both ends of the floor. Yeah, he could have gotten "more" if he had opened trade talks up for everyone. However, he thinks the team can win now.....getting 4 first round picks over the next 4 years does nothing for a team you are trying to win now with. They aren't rebuilding.
That being said, Davis needs to stay healthy or none of this matters and then it's a bad trade.

M3WC wroteTotally different game in the playoffs. They play defense. It might not be 80s defense, but it’s significantly more than they play during the regular season.Lebron hasn't played defense since 2013, yet some newbs think he is the goat.
Also, no one plays defense anymore. Every NBA game is 130-140.

You and Jerry must be really good friends.
WHAT A DAMN JOKE!!
TXSTYLE wrotepass whatever your on over here pleaseIt's a very sad and unfortunate state of affairs for my Team. Injuries to professional athletes are part of the game. We simply got hit with more than usual to our Stars.
If I'm Nico, I am completely shutting things down and going after Cooper Flagg. If we miss him, you still acquire that Top 5 pick for Trade leverage.
Either way, as this Team is currently constructed, and once healthy, they are nearly unstoppable! And regardless of the above setbacks, I predict Dallas will Win a Championship before Lakers with Luka.
I watched every minute of that Boston game. Absolutely zero chance LA gets past Boston or Cleveland in a 7 game Series. And I don't see them defeating Denver or OKC in a Series either based on their current roster.
