Was installing bike rack for the season and noticed that my drivers side gasket has about 2/3 inch gap that's not on the other side. Could someone confirm whether this is normal or this is age deformation and I should replace it.

If replacing, is it a difficult task? Do you just pull it off from outside and jam the new rubber in?

Needs to be replaced. Though I don't know what is involved to perform the task. There are posts on the website that discuss the process.

no, it is not a difficult task. title your sunroof and pull out rubber seal along with rails toward the front. and slide them in by keep rubbing new seals towards the end. it is quite a bit of finger rubbing work but it is doable. I did mine about 15 mins on both side. add some rubber lubricant to the seal may help.

Thanks for the response. Would you have PN handy? I poked around and found this 54-10-7-493-151, but would like some sanity check because I can't find it in a forum anywhere and this is from a parts catalog.

Did you use any specific lubricant? I saw some BMW branded prong posted about but don't have a PN and was just gonna skip that part.

I think you have the right part number.

You can always check out the part number on realoem.

As for lube, this one should work well on rubber:

I did not apply bond on the rear seal. I just checked out the seal to make sure there is no gas once in a while.

Hope this helps.

You’re not kidding about poor quality. One can get dizzy watching it. Thanks for sharing.

In the process of replacing sunroof side seals 54107493151 in a neverending attempt to eliminate a sunroof leak. (2021 X5 g05). Bought the pair from bmw. Received 2 plastic o-ring type parts in the bag. They actually look like a roughly cut plastic pipe end!

I cannot find any literature to indicate what they are for - any ideas?
