How do I remove the blank panel in the shifter area?

Trying to remove this blank to put in a storage tray from Amazon. I got the front edge up, but I don't want to go further and possibly mar the surrounding trim.

There is a thread somewhere in the forums about adding the tray, and basically you have to remove the trim to gain access to the tabs that way you can remove the entire thing and underneath the shifter panel is the tabs that have to be pressed to remove that little blank panel. You could possibly get it without doing any of that and get the tabs from the top but i dont know.

I wasn't able to get the tabs to pop. I may just give up. Would be nice to have a place for my Altoids, but not critical :-)

i take the whole thing apart, but i do it from the bottom with the part out. i know you are looking for an easier method. This is a slightly different one but its in the same frame so it likely comes out the same.
