It’s time to replace rotors and brakes, It’s crazy how expensive it is, Does anybody know A good website where I could get all four for a good price. When I break , I can hear the squeaks .. I guess I need to order it ASAP thank you

Squeaking does not mean that you need new brakes, has the brake sensor tripped and you are getting notified that you need to change them or did you measure them?

If it is just the noise try bedding them.

A neighbor took a look, He showed me the rotor and explained A few few things I didn’t know.. but I did have a notification go on that. I have 900 miles left on the rear break. He looked at all four and said I need to change the brakes on the rotors

I mean, he told me that I need to change all four brakes and rotors

From this picture we cannot tell pad wear. Can you post a picture like this, where we can see the pad thickness?

Read this thread: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1795865

you have blue M brake package, quick search for genuien OEM part price is like this
Front rotor: 395x36, ~$305 each
Front pads: $281 per set include both sides
Rear rotor: 370x24, ~$188 each
Rear pads: $172 per set include both sides

Rest is labor and misc items.

Thank you so much! I will upload a picture within an hour. I have a question is this worth it? Is this a good deal? And everything I need for the replacement?

The backplate is about 5mm thick. my guess is your brake pad is about 4mm now. Brake sensor will be trip at about 2mm. So your is close but not there yet. It is good to start looking for options early tho. For reference, my picture above is when brake pad is brand new.

Zimmerman is an bmw OE supplier, so quality should be good. Since you are already looking at FCP, why give them a call on Monday and see what they recommend.

900 is just an estimate. It can quickly go to 0. You probably have a week or two.

My son’s car said 1800 and within a week was at 300. When I replaced them they were uneven worn. First time I’ve ever seen that.

Not trying to be cheap, but if these rotors and brakes end up being great ….. I probably saved over 2k …. Or took a 337 dollar loss lol

Wow. Keep us updated. At least the rotor looks quite decent from picture. The amazon description is kind of vague. efore taking your apart, maybe do a sanity check to make sure at least they look the same.

Most people, including DIYer (myself included), I go with OE/OEM parts only because I want to do it once and not need to revisit. It is my time and down time for the car at this stage of my life. I used to do exactly what you do, try different hardware (brake pad, caliber, damper, tires ...). Most of time, things worked out just fine. It was fun too.

Two years ago I bought powerstop pads and they clunk when I change direction

Absolute shite… waiting for the day I can replace them…

If those brakes and rotors end up being epic, I will upload a YouTube video .. I really wish they did the perfect job so that people never have to overpay. I know what they’re buying.

Not positive about the M50/60. But for the 40 BMW lists the rotors as lightweight which is why the aluminum hat is so ugly compared to older cast rotors.

Jumping in on the thread here as I'm shopping for front brakes as well on a 2019 X5 40i. I usually go with whatever FCP recommends for OE but I was pretty surprised by the price tag when I checked yesterday. I looked at RockAuto under the "premium" selections and there was a $200 difference between FCP OE and premium RockAuto. Came to Bimmerpost to get some intel from the field on experience.

I may be wrong but those Amazon's rotors don't look like they are coated (e.g. zinc) so the the hat's will likely rust. Normally, coated rotors say that in the ad to highlight they are coated.

I have had good experience with coated rotors from centric (higher end ones), raybestos (really liked them), zimmerman (big German OEM supplier but more $), and I think Brembo. you really cannot go wrong with a "premium coated rotor" from rock auto from a reputable brand. what I would avoid is any of those brands related to "performance" like powerslot, powerstop, etc.

FWIW one of the most important things to do right after a brake job is to bed the pads and rotors properly with multiple (10 or more) medium/hard stops from 50ish to 10mph without coming to a complete stop and then driving easy for 10 mins or so to cool them off. this ensures you properly mate the entire pad with the rotor surface and deposit even pad material onto the rotor which is essential for proper brake function. this will ensure a long, trouble free brake replacement.

FCP Euro and Rockauto are very good and ship quickly.
Some rotors got hit hard with the Tariffs. I know this personally.

I recommend SHW, Brembo, or Zimmermann rotors. The OEM rotors have unattractive hats and tend to look even worse as they age. Another poster already mentioned this above, and honestly, that alone is reason enough to swap them out.
