There are foaming soaps designed as pre-washes to dissolve contamination, or there are more ph neutral was soaps designed with lubrication in mind as standard car washes.
I’ve had good experiences with the Adam’s Mega foam for a nice value priced option. The Chemical Guys Honey Dew snow foam didn’t foam up well with my cannon (which is the Adam’s unit).
Your water flow, foam cannon orifice, and product/water ratio will all affect the foaming of a certain product. So bear that in mind when reading people’s reviews.

If you don’t own a pressure washer and you’re just getting started, I would recommend the GreenWorks 1.8GPM 1200 PSI automotive pressure washer. It’s on sale right now for like 150? The foam cannon it comes with is pretty good.

If I need to strip a lot of dirt and grime after the winter, or remove old wax, or old ceramic coating, or heavy bug splatter, then I grab a smaller bottle of higher pH soap like Griots Foaming Surface Prep (pH 12-13):

I typically use Adam's Car Shampoo for a pH-neutral wash. I haven't selected an alkaline or acidic foam yet. Mainly, I would want the alkaline snow foam for the road salts if I (unfortunately) have to drive around in the crappiest weather. Some people think all snow foams are the same, but they are not.
It's funny when I find people reviewing the effectiveness of snow foams. They take a Subaru WRX out in the snow for 30 min and come back to wash. After washing with a PH-neutral snow foam, they're like "OH EMM GEE, see guys?! FAKE GNUS" --lol

I get that you’re trying to find the “best” option without going through a bunch of trial and error. Honestly, most of the options out there are pretty solid. If you’re after thick foam, you can always bump up the shampoo concentration, and there’s also a simple hack—add a double mesh filter kit to your foam cannon for more suds.
As far as foam cannons go, MJJC is basically the Cadillac of the bunch. I’m also a big Adam’s Polishes fan—I’ve got a whole wall of their products and bottle racks. Their Mega Foam is probably their best, but if you wash frequently, even the cheaper blue shampoo works just fine. I really like the Adam’s Premium Foam Cannon too—wide mouth makes it easy to fill, and I like that it can take a 16 oz bottle directly on the cap. I also added a weighted metal ball to the pickup tube.
I recently tried Chemical Guys Mr. Pink, and it foams up really well with no residue. Once I run out of my Adam’s stuff, that’ll probably be my go-to. Just keep in mind some shampoos don’t do well in direct sunlight.
At the end of the day, there are a lot of good choices. I’d start with a quality foam cannon like MJJC or the Adam’s Premium and go from there.

This is what I use- it's ultra concentrated. Literally a 1/2oz per 20oz of water will give you great foam and good cleaning ability. This gallon would probably last you 5+ years LOL

The one product where I do think there's a difference is spray-on ceramic products – some essentially last a week at best, some can last much longer. Project Farm
But for most stuff? Get whatever is the best deal, IMO. Detailing products are kind of like BBQ recipes – everyone's got their favorite and claim that it's the absolute best.
Tried Car Pro Reset but, when used for bucket washes, it seemed to reactivate. That got it removed from my lineup.

I don't use the chemical guys stuff any more as i feel like it has way too many other additives that aren't needed. IE i don't like the 'gloss enhancing' additives in their soaps they claim to have, i feel like it can harm the performance of my ceramic coating.
