Any '50s and '60s car enthusiasts out there? I love going to car shows and guessing make, model, and year before I approach a car and find out how far off I was. There are always subtle details that give it away since car manufacturers put out "new" models each year but often times only made cosmetic changes.

So, let's play Guess the make, model (extra credit), and year.

Post away and let us guess. Please make it hard but not entirely impossible.

At least guess make and year. Sometimes model is tough if the photo doesn't give any clues.

Go!

Without cheating I know it's a mid 60's Falcon, not sure of the year though

I wanted to start fairly easy. I'm proud to say my wife, both my kids, and all 6 of my grandkids can tell the difference between a 55, 56, and 57 Chevy. They are doomed to repeat my obsession.

Here's a fairly easy one, but tricky on the year.

One from the Antipodeans.

The challenge with any of these types of things is to do them without cheating!

No "porthole"...so not a '56 but a '55 Thunderbird.

It's a GM (remembering I am in Australia), not an Opel though

You are correct, but what's missing in this photo, making it a '55 instead of a '56 Thunderbird, is the side vent, not the porthole.

The porthole was also a feature of the Thunderbird, but it was part of the hardtop.

Without cheating, I'm guessing a '57 Ford.

So I know GM and Australia's Holden were/are coupled, but I won't be able to even guess at a model name.

After I submitted my incorrect year, I did some research. I now know it's not a '57, but I'm perplexed. I think I've got the correct year but the V8 emblem on your photo is different. I'll wait for the answer and then keep that new information in my mind's old car database.

I can only imagine no one from outside Australia, without cheating could.

You're right though, it is a Holden.

It's a 1960 Holden FB Special Sedan.

Here's one in better condition.

Also came in a station wagon. Looks very similar to an American relative?

You're right. That V8 emblem belongs on a Ford but it's from a year earlier than the car pictured. This is the emblem that should have been on it.

...and the world is right again. Thanks for clarifying.
