My wife and I both have our iPhones paired to the X5. I don't use Apple CarPlay, but she does. Whenever we are both in the car with both phones showing connected on the display, and music is streaming from my phone, the system switches to her phone/CarPlay when she uses her phone. It is kind of irritating because I have to manually set the system back to stream music from my phone, but the auto switching to her phone/CarPlay continues to happen when she is using her phone as a passenger. Is there a setting that will prevent the auto switching?

Problem solved. Adjusted the phone priority order and set each of our profiles to only allow our phone when our profiles are being used. Works as expected now.

If you don’t use Apple CarPlay, the just remove your phone from car? Simplest and gsrrsntee no confusion solution.

Phone priority didn’t work at all on preLCI. Not sure it is any better in LCI.

I dont use Apple CarPlay, but my wife does. The issue we were seeing was her phone taking over at random times and switching to Apple CarPlay when my profile was being used as the driver. I would be driving and my phone was streaming music and whenever she uses her phone to look at things while I am driving, the audio would switch to her phone.

Prior to changing settings, both of our phones would show as connected to the car, no matter which user profile was being used. After changing the settings for phone priority and only allowing our respective phones to be connected when using our user profile, the random changing has stopped. Now, only my phone shows as connected when I am using my user profile, driving, and streaming music. My wife can do whatever she wants on her phone and it does not take over. When she is using her user profile and driving, my phone does not show as connected and she uses Apple CarPlay. I can do whatever I want on my phone and it will not take over the connection.

I'm not sure how it is in pre-LCI cars, but it appears to be working as expected now. We dealt with this irritation for 2 years, but now all is good.

I don't recall seeing this setting on our 2026 X5. Would you happen to have a photo of it that you can share?

Hi @martian_soldier - The setting is under Mobile Devices > Your Mobile Device > Device Settings.
