I... expected this. After the success of the Spyder, Spyder RS and how loved the 911 Speedster. I figured they make one like this eventually with the parts they have.

Pointless. This is just brand dilution at this point.

At least the Speedster was cool. This one is a big miss. Every though they are the same-ish recipe, this one just doesn't hit. The same sentiment is echoed across my circles who either have, have had, or can easily have these kinds of cars.

I think there is a market for a drop top with the NA engine, but i've not been a big fan of the look Speedsters in the past. A GTS like the 991.1 is what I feel the market wants, more sporty focused and a proper NA sound/experience but not a GT3 so to speak so road compliant.

There may be an upside in that the older cars, coffee, and country club crew will migrate to this model freeing up some supply for the core GT3 buyer and mitigate some of the allocation/ADM absurdity.

Take a car famed for its stability and rigidity and then... remove the roof, a major rigidity component, all while making it heavier with chassis reinforcements and an auto-soft-top.

Interesting. That being said, I'd love for this to free up regular GT3s for enthusiasts, as previously mentioned. Most of the GT3s I see IRL are driven by retirees who presumably don't take them outside of the 101 freeway and a restaurant parking lot.

Which is why i think this should be a GTS but with a NA motor. As a 911 cab owner, the top down experience is a must for me and the family.

I guess you have to really want one to understand the point of this car because I sure as hell don't.

It's the engine. Only cabs in 911 form are sold with a soulless turbo charged motor. Even my regulation 9A1 NA engine is a glorious noise top down @6500RPM
04-15-2026
I'm sure it drives great but of all the cars you could buy from Porsche, and the likely spend you'll need to get this anyway, why would you choose this?
04-15-2026
A better parts-bin car would have been the same engine and transmission but in effectively a 911 Turbo Cab. You can't get a convertible 911 with a manual, so that combined with the NA engine, RWD, and the 911 Turbo Cab bodywork and chassis tuning would have been good. But a hotboi trackday Cab is just dumb.

I agree, but think how many GT3 S/Cs will be sold to the Cars and Coffee crowd. I understand why Porsche did it.

I watched the Chris Harris video and he explained the reasoning behind a lot of this w a Porsche employee... I don't get it all but I guess there is a limited market for this with $100K markup to show off at cars and coffee by some guy that can barely handle a Miata so it is what it is...

That being said, Porsche is doing everything they can to milk the 911 as its effectively the only car they have currently in demand whilst the EV disaster is costing them a ton.
04-16-2026
Agreed, this is going to be a hit for the Cars & Coffee crowd, but this car will not be marked up like other GT3s. There are countless people on various Porsche group chats I'm in who are being offered the car at MSRP. Dealers have been proactively calling customers to get them in line this week, and so far it's been a dud.

You can get a Carrera T convertible manual, but you are limited to the base engine and reduced options.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but if I was going to get another 911, this would be the one. It's the only thing Porsche is offering currently that remotely interests me.

The real convertible top (vs the speedster's cover) is excellent, with its magnesium hard panels and integrated wind deflector. The 6sp manual (not the 7sp PDK adaptation )and the 4.0 NA engine are the perfectly matched for each other. Adding the double wishbone suspension and some of the cool lightweight S/T components and you have something that will be an absolute blast to carve up back roads.

The downside is my config was $329k. The premium over the GT3 coupe is dumb

Some of BMW's best cars have been parts bin specials. Watch the Chris Harris review of this one and you might get the same opinion.

Ah yes, I wasn't aware there is a Carrera T Cab but seems so.

I luv the brand my whole life and the 911 is an icon. This is an absolute disaster and money grab and completely pointless. The EV losses are causing Stuttgart to make terrible decisions in search of cash. It just looks wierd too, and i luv the 992 and have one in the fam so to speak. If they had to make a roofless GT3, they should have used the Targa not the Cabrio. The Targa is beautiful and mean in a widebody so that I could have lived with but this is just off proportions in this guise, such a strange move and reaks of desperation for profits to cover the EV losses. Pointless.

That didn't go well.

Porsche has jumped the shark at this point, and it’s yet another overpriced, unobtainable vehicle only some ultra-wealthy person or influencer will get willing to pay the ADM and other add-ons the dealer will place for the “privilege” of owning the vehicle. I love my 911 but also realize it’s most likely the last one I’ll ever own. It’s really funny because Porsche could barely sell GT3 cars maybe ten years ago, selling at discounts.

I think some of us are saying the same thing. There's a market for a higher spec cab with a screaming NA motor, but it didn't need to be this extreme or expensive. There's just something not right about sports cars with turbo charged engines, and I mean sports cars not near super cars. Like it is fine in a McLaren but a "sports car" should have a NA option, it's a night and day experience.

I own a fairy pedestrian 997.2 S cab with just a gundo hack. Foot to firewall in 2nd and 3rd is quite the visceral experience yet I can tote the wife and 2 kids (when they were smaller) for a weekend picnic if I need to.

And put the extra weight in the worst place.

It's 35lbs heavier than the coupe... You and your wife take your GT3 coupe to dinner and you're coming home with more added weight than the S/C.
