Hey everyone,
Came across this chip on the hood after a recent drive. The paint chip itself looks fairly normal, but there’s a crisp, raised burr on one edge that’s definitely not typical rock damage. The edges are sharp and clean — it actually snagged my microfiber wash mitt pretty good. I double-checked and it’s a real metal edge, not just raised paint.
I don’t want to just tap it flat (worried it’ll look odd after touch-up and could trap moisture/rust later).
Part of me is tempted to carefully grind it down with a Dremel and a fine stone, but the smarter voice is saying “It’s a 2023 BMW… maybe don’t.”
What’s the recommended way to handle a sharp burr like this?
Options I’m thinking about:
• Gently scrape it level with a fresh single-edge razor blade (held almost flat, light pressure)
• Clean the area well and just touch it up over the burr with proper BMW paint + clear
• Leave it and have a pro detailer or body shop handle the spot repair
Anyone dealt with something similar on newer BMW paint? What worked best without making it worse?
Appreciate any solid advice — thanks in advance!
