Photographer918 wroteBeen driving for more years than I care to admit and have never seen a gas station with only one octane level. On road trips I use what I can get - sometimes that’s 89 or even 87, but that’s also why I fill up every time I stop. That way it’s usually not more than a quarter tank of lower octane going in….
Pretty sure a guy who fills up with 87 octane does so by choice and not because there are no other options.
lknbimmers wroteShell and Chevron are the brands recommended almost invariably by the top tuners and engine builders but that is when the subject of the quality fuel is discussed and not where to purchase the cheapest premium or lower octane level.Shell V Power every fill-up

I’m not sure if I can feel a difference of 1 octane, but only the best.
Never have I had a bad fuel issue even for extended time (years) in the tanks with stabile.
pizzamoney wroteThere are stations in Texas that have 85, 87, and 88 or 89 as the 3 choices. But other than that, there seems to always be another station across the street that offers better choices since our highway system is not bound by a 1942 gas station with only 1 choice. I've seen these gas stations off the beaten path on very rural roads, but I don't stop at these no name stations anyway (only Chevron/Shell on trips). Costco gas anywhere near home is the easy choice for me, so I am fortunate for that. The lowest octane I've put in this particular X5 is 91.Been driving for more years than I care to admit and have never seen a gas station with only one octane level.

I just make sure I don't floor the car or lug it too low since I'm usually in a turbocharged vehicle for the past 35 years or so. Also, remember that people who lease cars don't care about long term or the next buyer of the vehicle.
X5 gets premium which varies in octane, but I try to get Sunoco if it's a high volume station.
sthsne wroteWe use Shell or Chevron 93 only. I have read quotes from several tuners /builders suggesting that rotating between the two in order to realize the benefits of each is beneficial as their proprietary additive packages are different and that sounds quite logical to me. The benefits of "Techron"(Chevron) are well documented and have been widely know for many years.SHELL 93 since I own my car, never mix other brands.
Is Costco 93 every bit as good as Shell or Chevron 93? I don't know and cannot make that call beyond anything above pure opinion and doubt that anyone else here can either. I do know that there is no way I am going to wait in line for 20-30 minutes or more to save 3 bucks. Life is waaaaaaay too short for that nonsense.
