It is on by default. She can check the setting under Driver Assistance there should be a section for Parking. There are many variables as to whether it will brake or not, perhaps she was driving too fast for it to kick in.

PDC has a separate setting for braking while reversing. It is separate from the cross-traffic braking. Most people turn it off because it's too aggressive when parking in tight spaces. I have mine turned off. I also have the automatic PDC turned off as well, when approaching from the front, as the gongs are just about the worst noise you could ever hear while concentrating on close-distance maneuvers.

I've owned a number of vehicles with adaptive cruise and they universally go back to the set speed once it detects that there's no longer an obstacle in the vehicle's way.

I mean, that's kinda the whole point of adaptive cruise.

While I'm no fan of subscription heated seats, I think DAPP is a great example of a pay-as-you-need-it feature.

Some extra cameras and sensors are required, but a large part of it is software.

I'm in the camp of "can't live without," but I also go several months where I don't use it. If I were taking a longer trip, I'd happily pay to have access when I want it vs. the $2k+ one-time fee.

As well, all X5s would feature the technology, so I trust this would benefit consumers and dealers. Nothing is worse than finding the perfect car, only to be missing an important option.

Emergency PDC braking must be enabled for it to intervene, otherwise it will go right ahead and smash into something even though the sensors are going off. It is not enabled from the factory.
