Hello,

I'll have "preparation" for the infotainment system on the back of driver's and passenger's seat, but without the actual infotainment system, because I'd like to use my own iPad/tablet.

Are there already any aftermarket holder for iPad/tablet that fits into the "back of the seat preparation", any experiences with some?

Thanks!

Ninefourteener's user avatarNinefourteener if I get the BMW tablet mount Part # 51952408224, do I need to get the BMW tablet case as well, or is the BMW tablet mount able to directly hold iPad/tablet without the tablet case?

Unfortunately..... yes. BMW makes several tablet cases for different (non BMW) tablets. But those cases are designed to fit snugly into the tablet holder.

Theres another post that lists all the BMW accessories. Thats where I found the specific tablet case for the tablet I chose. Make sure BMW makes a case for the tablet you have. Otherwise the holders wont work.

I'll go snap a pic in a minute.

Something to consider if you didn't know. The power outlets on the back of the seat have no data transfer.... it's just power... so any tablet you install will be independent from BMWs system.

So the tablet holder is universal, sturdy, and very high quality.

The tablet case is made by BMW, and also very sturdy and high quality. (It even came with a screen protector, but I didnt use it).... but the cases are very specifically "grooved" to fit into BMWs tablet holder.

So yea..... you need both.

You'll also need a power wire. USB type C to "whatever" type of charge port your tablet uses. I would recommend getting "right angle" type plugs like I did.

My tablet is 10 inches, and my charge wires were 10 inches.... and were BARELY long enough. In hindsight, I woulf have purchased 12-inch long cables.

Here's some pics

Can you easily disconnect your tablet and use it outside of the car?

It IS in it's case. The BMW-made case for a samsung galaxy Tab-A (and presumably all the other tablets they make them for) is a VERY heavy and thick rubber case. It's stamped "BMW" on the back (barely visible in 3rd pic), and it has two "indentions" where the tablet holder grabs on to it.

Do they make one for the iPad Pro 11"? Where is the list of all the tablet holders?

Sure it IS :) Thanks

I just wanted to have a sense of how thick it is. How practical it is outside of the car.

It's fine. Just feels like a heavy duty case. Similar to an otterbox thickness, but more rubbery and less plasticky

My dealer sent me the up-to-date list of all available cases, it looks like everything is covered:

Does anyone know if BMW is pretty good about making new cases as new tablets come out? It looks like they do not yet make a case for the latest generation iPad 10.2" model.

I bought the BMW system. I found that we hardly ever use it as it protrudes too far from the seat back and makes getting in and out of the car way too difficult w/o constantly moving front seats forward just for entry/exit, especially by the middle seat kids. Even in the photos of the the BMW factory rear seat entertainment system (RSE) you can see the screen is attached flat to the front seat back to not hinder entry/exit.

We ended up using a couple of $20 seat back iPad holders from Amazon that are low profile, adjustable and keep the tablet/phones closer than the BMW system to the front seat back. It works with 2 car seats and three kids in the back seat for easy entry/exit. They are a bit flimsy but have not broken yet and its been almost a year since purchase.

How is it that I cannot find anywhere to purchase the Safety Case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 part 51952473275....

I totally agree. The OEM seems stick out too much. It is the cleanest setup, but not very practical. I wish they make it such that is is right up against the headrest of seat back.

Has anyone ever run into this with the travel and comfort tablet holders? These two just came apart mid drive (without a tablet payload). My kid is not a rough user of things - so a little surprised. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to put this back together again. Everything seems super tight and molded. Ok

Is the case mandatory?
