U.S.

I don’t use the gas engine enough in my daily commutes at the risk of voiding warranty

I'm from Europe btw. Car has no longer warranty so I will try it next week. Honestly, in 90% my wife uses the car for very short routes so it is used as EV mostly too.

I have ordered the Bluespark unit, it should arrive next week. I will add some photos and info later.
So I got some info from the company:

tuning box, you will have the option to change between 5 settings, A-E.
Adjusting the settings on the box will look as follows:

A: 469hp/705Nm
B: 479hp/710Nm
C: 487hp/720Nm
D: 501hp/739Nm
E: 510hp/750Nm

(B58 - 45e)

I installed the kit 2 days ago, it is really plug and play, nothing special. Only problem was with the boost sensor plug, the original. I was strugling with it for an hour to disconnect. That plastic had some issue.
I made a test drive, it is different for sure. On Bluespark module I changed the settings to A, so to the weakest. It is enough for now.
It would be good to test it on a dyno. Now I can only feel the torque change, and this modification is really significant at lower RPM.
So for this price this is a bargain.

I just picked up a used '21 45e a week ago. Looking forward to adding one of these piggyback boosts and perhaps an intake down the line. These cars are so quiet I'm not even sure if I want to do the intake or not, any observations?

I did/do have a 530E that I added a Racechip piggyback to ... don't know if it's related but I did have some transmission issues down the road and was replaced under warranty, a shifting hesitation when transitioning from electric to gas. Hopefully unrelated to the mod and just a fluke (I had read about someone else with the same transmission issue who didn't report having added a boost mod).

I have the JB Plus https://burgertuning.com/collections/x1-x2-x3-x4-x5-x6/products/b38-b46-b48-b58-bmw-jb-plus-tuner and the associated intake along with the mission tuning range extender - really enjoying that combo for not much $ and can surely feel the difference in power and throttle response and getting about 65-70mi in the warmer weather
Does the JB Plus give extra range on the battery or just more power to the engine?

What do you mean with the associated intake?

Thanks

Just got the 3-channel Bluespark module. It has no adjustments; just the factory setting.

I will get around to installing and testing it all out on about 2 weeks. The weather stinks and I'm busy. I'll report back to let you know if it blew up my engine lol.

OK I finally got that Bluespark module installed. This 45e is now a freakin rocket and well worth the price and install time.

Just do it OMG you'll love it. I put a K&N filter in and the tuner. Tuner is not adjustable on the 3-channel version. The stock air filter is the most restrictive ridiculous garbage I've ever seen, BTW. It's twice as thick as the K&N and also has a scotch Brite pad or something covering the inlet side of the air... Weird. As always, I usee an air compressor to blow off the K&N prior to installing it to get any excess oil off.

The car effortlessly gets up to felony speeds now and is incredibly fun - even compared to my Vette.

Definitely do yourself a good service and get one of these tuners with a K&N.

Can you drop the link for the 3 channel version? I am looking to do this after the warranty is up on mine.

This one does NOT have user configurable maps; only the 1. So their description is wrong and also don't order it with the bluetooth as that's a waste since it is not adjustable.

91 or 93 octane is fine as the unit will adjust on the fly to the timing/cam position and takes the mass air sensor into account.

Turbo lag is non-existent with this module and more boost is easily felt. No question that this is the absolute cheapest power add-on for ANY car I've seen. Delivery was only like 8 days using the slowest method. Install is ridiculously easy, BUT I fit my unit by the air box neatly tucked away and hid the wires almost completely. My car still has lots of warranty. I've never had issues with BMW service for 25 years. One time in a new Z4, one of my speakers blew so I brought it in. They asked what happened and I told them I was listening REALLY loud and the speaker blew. They replaced it free since I told them it should be able to handle any volume lol.

Message here if you need any help.:cool!:

That's fantastic. I think I will do this when my factory warranty is up. I've got an extended 100K warranty as well, but could remove it if there's a need.

BTW that 1 bumps it to 526hp/590lb-ft torque. And the torque comes on near instantly.

Hey Mrc888's user avatarMrc888!
How is bluespark so far? Any issues? Did you check the dyno numbers?
05-15-2025
With a piggyback you can easily go over 500hp, so Bluespark's figures of 510-520 may be correct. ( see the chart below of mine 45e with a piggyback).
However, there are two important points to be careful of. Your DME has no idea of the actual boost pressure (as it is faked) and applies fuel delivery and ignition timing to match the boost pressure (which is in real significant higher). The fuel delivery is the smaller problem, as the fuel quantity will be increased by lambda control (but in the short term - until the lambda reacts - it can run really lean).
But the DME uses ignition timing which belongs to a significant lower boost level and therefore leads to high ignition corrections. So if you use a piggyback, really fill up with the best fuel available (and/or mix with ethanol).

I've now installed MHD and would like to share my experience.
Femto Unlock was necessary, which is a clear disadvantage compared to Piggybox, but it runs better, even if the differences aren't that huge.
But that was just the first step,a larger turbo will be installed soon.

What's surprising, that there are only minimal differences between Stage 1 and Stage 2.
Stage 1 runs with lower boost pressure but with a bit more ignition, and it seems to balance out the extra boost.
In the 100-200 km/h measurement, Stage 1 was only 0.4 seconds slower than Stage 2.
The main differences of MHD compared to Piggybox:
- More boost pressure
- Less ignition
- Less fuel sensitivity (with the box, you had to add ethanol even with RON100 to make it run without ignition timing corrections , as the stock ignition maps are used, which are designed for lower boost pressure)
- Correct torque values towards the TCU
- different AFR

Performance:
With MHD, the throttle response is significantly sharper. Relatively similar in the midrange, but MHD is noticeably stronger at the top end.
100-200 km/h is about 1.5 seconds slower with the box at the same outside temperature.

The dyno values show stock vs. box vs. MHD.
The box was also tested with Insoric and produced the same performance ( ~520PS see attachment).
All values refer to stock hardware (stock downpipe with OPF).
With a sportcat, Stage 2 would probably be a bit more powerful, but that will be installed along with the turbo in two weeks.
I'll report back on the results.

I’m curious to know what your 0-100 is. I also definitely plan to do ecu unlock, tune, and upgraded turbo down the line as well.
