With all the hype of the Velvet Blue M2 CS, I’ve been meaning to post mine. The colour is so difficult to capture - it’s the Blurplest of blues and not quite full Purple.

THIS is my Velvet X5 that I picked up just about a year ago from New Country BMW in Connecticut. I’ve had a chip on my shoulder ever since I missed out on individual Venetian Violet on my M4, so this helps pacify my purple fix.

To me, the photos usually look more blue than purple, so I’m hoping to showcase how different it can look in varying light.

It’s a great ice breaker to ask whether it’s Blue (yes) or Purple (yes)

First session from July, shot by @AJ_Lopez_Artistry (find him on IG)

I had been looking for a X5 PHEV for a while and almost picked a Phytonic Blue one from CarMax - and then this one popped up in CT, affectionately named ‘Grimace’ by the dealership staff. Sorted out the details and then my son and I flew out from Omaha to seal the deal.

A nice road trip is a great way to get familiar with the car - and the X5 handled like a champ through 9 states (CT, NY, NJ, PN, OH, IN, IL, IA and finally NE), including a early winter Blizzard that closed down parts of the interstate.

It was sunny and the leaves were changing colors, so made for a great day to take some photos with the X5 and the M4 - a great compare/contrast between the Velvet Blue and San Marino Blue (which can look a bit blurple in the sun)

That is one sexy looking vehicle. New Country is our local dealership. Overall, we have had an excellent sales and service experience there. Why did you decide to purchase from a dealership in Hartford, CT, when you live in Omaha? Was this a stock unit?

Thanks!

The color was worth the trip - basically, combination of price, options, colors, etc - and it was a trade assist, which made it an attractive deal vs others on the market.

Was this a special order from someone that cancelled? It's an individual color right?

Yes, individual color - the previous owner had it for about a year and 20k miles - I don’t drive nearly as much, so it will average that out a bit

Outstanding colour, huge congrats!

Last nights sky was trying to color coordinate - dim, but crazy to see the aurora this strong so far south and in the city

Surprisingly, they weren’t terrible, but we did take it slow - the roads were more wet, rather than deep snow.

I am waiting for Continental to come out with the DWS in 315/35/21 so I can switch to all seasons - otherwise, I may have to break down and get a winter set.

Will see how it goes this year, but made it through so far on rhe Hankooks

Good to hear. I live outside of NYC and we no longer get a lot of snow. I have a set of 20s square setup and the 21s - looking forward to just leaving the 21s on since I like the ride better - will be getting those continental as well.

I take this back - these were terrible on the slick roads (fun for donuts, but not safety).

I’m trying to hold out for March ‘26 - supposedly Continental has the 21” 315 DWS in the system for then.
