It's not easy, but definitely doable. Check your local services that specialize on BMW who can retrofit.

You will need:
- cruise control radar
- on the top of the windshield if you have a camera with one lens, you will be able to enable only active cruise control. If you also want a lane keeping, you need to update it to 3-lens system
- new buttons on the steering wheel to change the distance
- for the full DAP, you will also need to install 4 radars in the bumpers, so that the car can avoid collisions
- wiring for all these
- coding

Thank you for the detailed list.
I have an X5 50e with Driving Assist (simple), Parking Assist Pro, and built-in adaptive recuperation.
I hope there is a simpler way - Driving Assist Plus, it uses the same radar as I have for the adaptive recuperation.
I'm interested in the package: “Preparation for Driving Assistant Plus” (9QV). Is it possible to add to the X5 50e 2025y?
If yes, I can buy Driving Assist Plus online.

Could you please accept what part are already exist in X5 50e?
- cruise control radar - Google says this is the same. I already have MRR-02 or FRR-02 for adaptive regen, is it correct?
- 3-lens camera, do I have it for the adaptive recuperation or Parking Assist Pro?
- new buttons on the steering wheel, I hope it is not hard to install (or to use a screen interface like in the new X3)
- coding - I hope that if I mark that I have 9QV, I can just buy it online

Could you please correct me? What changes do I need to retrofit to get Driver Assistance Plus for X5 50e?

Don’t think any retro fitting of this nature is possible on LCI models due to the new secure coding unless it is sanctioned by BMW themselves for something like a towbar installation

Is it possible to install “Preparation for Driving Assistant Plus” (9QV) to obtain BMW certification?

I do not know if this is possible. Your best option is to access your Connected Drive account and see what official options are available for your vehicle. If 9QV is available then you will either pay a yearly subsciption or a once off payment. BMW will then send/upload a digital Certificate/FSC code to enable the feature Failing this your local dealer may be able to enable it.

Can you pm me your VIN # i can check your FA and see what hard ware you have and what optional preparations are listed and available to be retro enabled.

I know X5s sold in some European markets are fitted with optional hardware but not enabled at the factory The features are retroenabled by the dealer at the customers request after extra payment is made. ie something like the recent heated seats subscription fiasco

Thank you, I've sent you my VIN.
I have radar for the adaptive recuperation, like all 50e owners.

I also wrote to ConnectedDrive support about this situation. They said I don't have Driver Assistance Plus because I don't have 9QV. 9QV can be installed only in the factory during the car production, and none of the dealerships will install it, even if it is only 2 buttons, and I have a radar.
Rude answer of BMW and zero flexibility...

I have received your pm and checked your VIN # You have 5AS (basic cruise control) There is a lot more involved with DAP it has an extra ECU (SAS3) to handle all the functions and wiring from 5 radar sensors cameras including an additional camera mounted on the instrument panel to monitor the driver’s attention The camera in the windshield is also of higher spec than that fitted in your current vehicle I will send you a link to a document that explains the difference and shows the wiring circuits etc

There is also a forum member (Sangria) on the G20 forum that has retrofitted 5AU to his 3 series He has a detailed thread documenting the process and the amount of work required to do it which I can guarantee no BMW dealer would attempt anywhere in the world as I don’t think BMW would sanction it due to the complexity and cost

Hello, thank you for the answer.
What do you mean by DAP? Driver Assistant Pro or Plus?
Here is the website given by Sangria:
DA Pro https://driverassistpro.com/products/sa5au-driving-assistant-professional-high-beam-assist

DA Plus https://driverassistpro.com/products/sa5at-driving-assistant-plus-kit

Yes, DA Pro is a highly complicated thing, but DA Plus is much simpler, mainly based on FRR-02 radar that I already have.

You have 5AS (basic cruise control NO ACC) if you want ACC you have either upgrade to 5DF (ACC with stop & go function) or Highway/Motorway Assistant (5AX)

Driver Assist Plus (5AT) was the upgrade to 5AS in the previous generation F15 X5 and was superceded by 5AU/5DF in the Pre LCI G05 which is now superceded by Highway assistant (5AX) in the LCI model which you now have.
I am not sure if BMW still offer 5DF as an option in the LCI model but looking at the technical document the only hardware change would be the steering wheel in the Pre LCI model. I do know the camera hardware has changed in the LCI model not sure about the steering wheel.

If you look carefully at your link for 5AT you posted, the steering wheel buttons shown in the advert are for the previous generation F series steering wheel.

Have a look at this post by ynguldyn who has kindly supplied links for some BMW technical documents pertaining to the Pre LCI G05 X5. Look at 04 G05 Driver Assistance Systems for a more detailed explanation as to what I have given.

Thank you very much for the detailed clarification!
Looks like the only option for me is Driving Assist Pro if one day it will be possible.

Strange situation that BMW don't offer to buy online a simpler ACC to use with the existing hybrid radar.

Last time I checked, no-coding/no-retrofit for LCI cars yet (except few things). Almost all changes made to the car must be digitally signed with BMW-issued certificate, which only dealerships have. It should be possible, for example, to remove anti-dazzle feature and have it enabled with the upcoming firmware update.
