MoeTE87 wroteI didn't know that 9 woods existed. Is that like a 5 iron? I'm all for whatever type of club you hit the best shots with though i tend to bias towards traditional irons. What are everyone's thoughts on 9 woods? Tommy Fleetwood rocks the new Qi4D 9 wood and was putting on a show with it on the par three this past weekend!
MoeTE87 wroteWe should forget the numbers on clubs. Irons have become stronger and a 5 wood is an old 3 wood these days. What are everyone's thoughts on 9 woods? Tommy Fleetwood rocks the new Qi4D 9 wood and was putting on a show with it on the par three this past weekend!
I play traditional lofted clubs throughout my bag and my PW is 110 yard carry, with perfect gapping through to 5 iron at 160.
9 wood 175
7 wood 195
3 wood 215
Then driver at anywhere 225-240.
I've taken ages to get where I want and the 9 wood just filled the gap I needed to fill better than a 4 iron or hybrid.
JMcLellan wroteThat is correct. On TaylorMade's website, the 9 wood has a loft degree of 24. With TaylorMade, all wood lofts can be adjusts + or - 2*. So you can make it as high as 26* or as low as 22*.I didn't know that 9 woods existed. Is that like a 5 iron? I don't have a 5i in my bag. I start with a 6i and the loft on that is 25.5. If I were to purchase the 5i for my set, it comes with a 22* loft.
I have a TaylorMade 5 hybrid that I can adjust the loft but the standard on the head is 25*. I am wanting to trade that in and get the 9 wood.
Burnsey wroteI think woods are awesome to hit and for me, easier to hit than my long irons. Hence why I have a 3w and 7w and now looking at adding a 5w and 9w. Is that too many woods to have in a bag? lol.We should forget the numbers on clubs. Irons have become stronger and a 5 wood is an old 3 wood these days.

I have a new set of Ping G440 irons that I bought this year and they are the standard loft.
Here are my average yards for the top of my bag:
Driver: 260-280
3W: 235-250
7W: 200-215
5H: 185-200
6i: 183
I have a gap between the 3W and 7W where I want the 5W to fill. I tested one and was consistently around the 220-233 mark.
The 9W would be a nice replacement for the 5H as more of a utility / might be easier to hit club...not sure.
JMcLellan wroteI guess I prefer the rescue clubs over the higher lofted woods. But it's all preference. If it looks good to you when you set up and you hit it good why not?I didn't know that 9 woods existed. Is that like a 5 iron? BTW I have seen 9, 11, 13 and 15 woods in my life.

MoeTE87 wroteWe have pretty similar yardages except I'm jealous of your driver......my 3 wood is a 235 to 255 club but I cannot consistently hit my driver more than 250 without it going in the wrong direction. I know I've said this before on here but I just cant hit a driver right now. I've just been settling and hitting a 3 iron off the tee and laying it out there 220 to 240. Im scoring just as well if not better without a driver.I think woods are awesome to hit and for me, easier to hit than my long irons. JMcLellan wroteRight now, my driver is giving me issues. I think I need to practice more to be honest. Had my indoor golf sim league last night and I think I was over thinking things and then on the last few holes I started to get better. On hole 9 I ended up driving the ball 285 and I have no idea how I did it. I didn't swing for a week and I showed. I think what I need to do is swing every other day to keep things progressing in the right direction. We have pretty similar yardages except I'm jealous of your driver......my 3 wood is a 235 to 255 club but I cannot consistently hit my driver more than 250 without it going in the wrong direction. That is awesome! It's my goal this year to play smarter and not just mash the ball. If I need to lay up because there is water..then I am going to. Happy you were able to figure out a "Plan B" to help keep things moving along nicely!
I can't hit my long irons to save my life, that is why I have woods and my iron set starts at 6i. lol

Fitted for an ordered PXG 8 Gens 5-PW.
Now the wait.
jamesinaz wroteHell yeah! Congrats! Waiting is the toughest part! 2 - 3 week time frame?

Did you go with PXG driver or anything or just irons?

Learned they now make the clubs in Mexico.
Velvet Fog wroteGolfing in the rain is brutal! Good for you for sticking it out!90 today in the pouring rain at The Home Course.
I do have a family trip planned for April to Nashville TN for a quick 4 days for my daughters Spring Break. We are staying at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and playing a single round at the Gaylord Springs Golf Links that is 2 miles east of the hotel. Looking forward to playing here and I appreciate my wife for giving me the "nod" to go play...means a lot! 🙂

Anyone play here? If so, any tips? Looks like a lot of water so I will need to be careful and on my "A" game!
I had to book a tee time with a group that already either had 2 or 3 people since I will be a single. So that was a bummer as I wanted my tee time as early as possible. Oh well..
Looking forward to it!
My tee time was at 7:50am as a single and got paired up with a father and his two sons. They were nice and didn't take the game too seriously.
Was able to get to the course about 7am and hit the range for about 20mins and putted for a few mins before the round started.
The clubhouse was very nice! One of the nicer club houses I have seen.
Mini Driver and woods seemed to be clicking. The mini driver was putting me in good spots and hitting it far.
Irons...those will need some work. They caused my game to slip a lot over the morning time and lost a few balls. So, I will need to concentrate on hitting those more consistent. Which is funny because I was striping my irons on the range.
All in all, it was fun to get out there and play in a different state and this course was in good condition. The front 9, the course seemed to be in much better shape than the back 9. Not sure why.
Velvet Fog wroteThat's awesome! Almost looks like my set up. I have mine on my back yard deck for now. I am building out a spot in my yard to have my golf sim permanently in place. I plan on working on it this weekend to hopefully have the L shaped wall up and the two boxes built for the hitting mat and for the net.Picked up a flightscope mevo gen 2 for my learing center. Getting the phone and PC apps set up for practice was easy Still trying to get the E6 course simulator integration working.
If anyone has any thoughts on how to build a box for the hitting mat to be left outside 24/7, please let me know. I am going back and forth on how I want to tackle this.
The L shaped wall will have a tv bracket, shelf for the ipad, electric outlet, golf bag holders.
Plus, will need to make sure I get my measurements down for my Garmin R10..which has been amazing.
I will take some pictures of the progress and share with you all!
Week 1 of my companies golf league was last night. We play at California Golf Course in Cincinnati, OH.
We started on the back 9 (only play 9 holes). I shot pretty damn well to be honest! Usually the back 9 here gives me a lot of issues but I told myself going in to play smarter and not let my ego get the best of me. My whole goal was to come out and play smart, take my time, shoot low and don't put myself in any real bad spots.
Shot a 46 (par is 35). I am very pleased with the score! Drives with the mini driver were amazing. Drove the green, 303 yards, on hole 15 and ended up with a birdie..haven't had one of those in a while. All in all, I am very pleased with how I played. I want to get better and shoot in the low 40s, maybe even a 39 would be awesome one night.
League starts next week though so I'm super excited to get back out for the season!
