Anyone found a decent front plinth for a shorter Uk number plate to mount to? I’ve only got the full size one and struggling to find any others? Let me know if any suggestions

I’ve got a short registration number (X5 followed by my initials) but it hadn’t occurred to me to consider a shorter number plate. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen one. I’m trying to envisage it and am not sure if it would look better or worse 🤔

Mines got 6 letters/numbers in. Seen a couple of x3 with shorter front plinths but never an X5. Must be able to get them, just never found any yet

6 digits is only 1 digit less than a standard number though, so would it really warrant a shorter plate? Mine is 5 digits and I’ve never really considered it an issue, especially as the digits have to be centred on the number plate. I have seen shorter number plates on other cars and never think that they look right, but if you find a picture of one on an X5 please post it as it may look better than I think!

There's quite a bit of space around a six number/digit plate. I've got a small one on the back, but a standard one on the front.

I mocked up the difference so you can see if you think it looks better short.

Just do what we do in the colonies and put NOTHING hahaha. I refuse to destroy the look on the front or drill into my bumper.

I think it looks great short, however, plinth on front too big and exposes holes if put a short on, and don’t get a smaller plinth

In the U.K. (and all of Europe as far as I know) we have to have front and rear plates by law. It’s not all bad news though. We don’t have to have those hideous orange reflectors above the front wheel arches that you have to have in the U.S. Now those really DO destroy the look in my opinion!

Thanks for mocking that up. It just goes to show that we are all different, as I prefer the look of a shorter number centred on a standard plate! Just a thought, but are shorter number plates legal or do they all have to be the standard sizes? I appreciate that some number plates (like on LR Discovery’s) are square, which may answer that, but maybe it’s like how some people alter the spacing of digits, or lose the spacing, in order to make it look like a name or word, as that is definitely illegal.

Be certain that those ugly orange reflectors have saved some lives.

They're perfectly legal as long as the spacing is as per the larger plates.
I got my smaller rear plate made at an official licence plate place.

Paint the plate ends black, or put some vinyl at the ends. Making it appear shorter, but not in reality.
