This is nothing new. BMW has always used different designs for different specs headlight. And there are still many BMW models in Europe with Halogen headlights with light bulbs DRL.

In Canada was part of a package so had no choice but to get it. But cool feature regardless.
From the manual. Laser high beams Concept The range of the high beams is increased and ensures an even better illumination of the road. General information When the high beams are switched-on, starting with a speed of approx. 37 mph/60 km/h, the la‐ ser high beams in the headlight are automatically switched on in addition to the LED high beams. Depending on the country variant, further infor‐ mation can be obtained from the laser label on the headlight.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m most certain cornering lights only come with the laser option.

And there are those bargain bin DRL's again. Sorry just gets me every time I see them. Real affront to the brand.

No offense to the OP but the pictures aren't accurate to what the lasers can or cannot do. Reason I say that is because in fog, high beam is worse and will get reflected by the fog causing glare and won't travel nearly as far. Fog lights (usually beamed low, as well as low beams, travel farther in fog due to their height / angle.

While fog does diminish the intensity of light, I don't believe the article applies very well to this technology implementation. The laser high beams augment the LED high beams by creating a tightly focused cylinder of light focused out to about 600 meters (going from memory). Traditional headlights are not as well focused as the light coming off the laser, and in that case the glare off the fog in front of the car will diminish the driver's ability to see the road. But as with most things in life, your mileage may vary.

37mph actually, and my point was to show the actual path of light nothing more. Where are you guys getting this craziness from about my post? I never intended for it to show their true potential only that yes they work and go further in a more direct manner

Mine cornering lights are not working either
I do have Laser lights and I can't wait until someone can decode them. Looks like they have Fusi lock.

Yea it wasn't a direct response to you, the title of this thread was laser lights US in action, but I guess the title on the main page of bimmerpost regarding this post (which brought me here) was Laser light Vs standard. Just wanted to clarify it to people that the glare is due to the fog as well, not a piss poor laser headlight. I am sure the Lasers are beautiful, bright, and awesome. Had there been no fog, the results probably would've been drastic (not that I would know).

The real reason I made this OP is because people were saying the lights never turned on or worked so I wanted to show they did. It's very hard to capture them in use on the road due to the speed requirement + no cars around. The lights make a huge difference and will be a requirement when I buy another BMW

Sounds like laser only activates in some conditions when using high beams. If so, likely would not be used (much) in all city driving? We have street lighting pretty much everywhere here.

I must admit I have been a light technology fan since HID came to market. I even retrofit many high power 50w ballast HID systems back in the day on my Audi’s with the factory HID system. The famed BMW “halo” was the most signature lighting element of any manufacture. We went to LED yet some of the executions of LED were not as effective as a good HID projector system. Now we are into the 4th gen LED systems with the introduction of Laser high beams. A Laser system is measured 1000 times more powerful than a LED system but after reflection gives it a real world 4 times brighter than the top LED system. This reduction is done on purpose. The Laser system is so bright that it has to be tamed even for European roads. For the US, it has to be tamed even more by when and how it can be activated. Laser lights are the future of head lights and we will eventually see a complete laser headlight system for both low and high beams much like what they did with using halogen for low beams and HID for high beams.
