You tell them you'll take your business elsewhere. They won't be willing to lose a whole deal over a software update. You hold all the cards pre-purchase.

None the less, to me thats a sign of a lazy dealer that I would be having issues with post purchase, I'd go elsewhere. |

I finally got them to agree to it after threatening to back out on my ordered car. I’ll need to come back next week. The manager used my key to print a document for me showing that a software update was available.
I believe the service dept. was looking at whether there are recalls or service campaigns available for my VIN. iDrive doesn't fall into that category so I think thats why they didn't see the update. Whatever the manager printed using my key clearly shows an update is available. Car is getting tint now and I’ll be able to enjoy driving it in a few hours. @RowanBuds - Yes, I had connected drive app set up ahead of time. I also got the info from Sirius XM and had that set up.
Note that I had read the manual ahead of time so some of the experience with the genius I had already read. Highly recommend having the connected drive app set up first. However don't toot the horn ahead of delivery that will annoy them hahahah |

We just picked up a new 2020 X5 yesterday and it had 7/2019.35 in it. So far no problems. No problems with ApplePlay or anything else, but we've only driven it a hundred miles or so, so far.

I just dropped my car for service, my service advisor tells me that the software upgrades are not covered!! OTA doesn't work for most of us so we are stuck with older software unless we are willing to pay for upgrade which I am not!!

they only cover if there is something wrong. tell them your BC button works intermittently or that car play is buggy (both are true)

JayPichardo are you hearing anything as to when the "July" OTA update will be made available?

I had intermittent CarPlay issues with the 03/2019.46 software ( (phone would randomly not connect or disconnect). My SA had me come in to update to 07/2019.39 at the end of July specifically to address these issues. I have not had issues with CarPlay since then.

My new 2020 X5 that I picked up two days ago has 07/2019.35. When I check for updates it says that there are none available. So far I have not run into any issues but, of course, I haven't driven it that much.

I also heard from the dealer that July software was pulled and they are still waiting on something newer. It makes sense since ios 12.4 was released on Jul 22 and 7/2019.35 also came out around the same timeframe. Unless their dev teams cooperate / cross-test before releases (I mean they can of course test with beta) but the timing is not sufficient to properly align one with another. New issues could have been identified after Jul 22 release of ios 12.4. This is just my guess.

My software shows the following date as the last update 11/2018.53
My vehicle has not been in for service yet. As it will not do any updates when driving as I have tried several times to see if I could initiate an update. Every time I get in the car and start it I get different malfunctions codes. I assume these codes are probably based on running older software. What do the software updates provide that were not in the 11/2018.53 release. Should the dealer have already done the updates when I purchased the car around May 1? The vehicle was built in late January 2019 |

Many dealers do not update the software on new vehicles. I was running .53 also until I got updated in June. There have been a lot of fixes and some features added in the new versions. You need to get you vehicle in and update to see if it takes car of the messages you are getting. |

My car came with 2019.44 in early June. My iPhone is updated. I haven’t received any updates except the experience mode and other apps. Everything works in my car, tho I don’t use CarPlay.
Honestly, I wouldn’t force updates from the dealer. Newer isn’t necessarily better. If your car is working with the version it has, I’d leave it alone. It is frustrating that promised upgrades with updates just aren’t happening, but hopefully they will happen soon. I was build pricing some different MB models today and noticed that OTA updates on thise cars are an extra-cost option. I’m thinking OTA just isn’t ready for prime time. |

There is nothing that can be done to install those apps. They are sent out as part of a regular Apps and Services update and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they are installed.
