Mine was built middle of March. I’ve seen others post with 2019 built M50i’s also had failed compressors. It seems like a design issue from the start or whoever supplies them changed something and now we are having this wide spread issue.

I just hope BMW is not putting these defective compressors in the cars being built now and in the upcoming ones for 21.
This is a good point, also the cars that are sitting in the lots will this be taken care of or will they be sold and than AC goes and needs to be replaced? |

Fwiw, I don't think these cars will be labeled as lemons just because it takes a long time to get a part. A car would be considered a lemon if you put 5 or so AC Compressors and the AC never worked. The wait continues

I don’t think it’s a design issue as the 2019 models AC work great. This is a manufacturing defect for sure but any V8TT 2020 models will have a TSB (inspect/replace) once they get a handle on this. We 2019 owners put up with a lot of firmware updates and a host of manufacturing/ordering inconsistencies. The misery is shared and not isolated to a 1st year production run as many was hoping to avoid. I am just glad the engine, transmission, and running gear has been rock solid. We were all beta testers for setting up the digital key network, WiFi, etc.. All these promised features were not on line for a long time after purchase.

I had an ac issue once or twice months ago but after resetting things via the idrive it's been ok, but I only have 850 miles on the car so who knows. We truly need a copy of the TSB do see how extensive this issue is.

Under the second presumption, if a consumer’s vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more nonconformities for a cumulative total of 15 or more days, the vehicle owner or lessee must send written notification of this fact to the manufacturer by registered or express mail. After receipt of the notification, the manufacturer or authorized service agent (usually the dealer) must have at least one opportunity to inspect and to repair the vehicle. Once the vehicle is out of service by reason of repair of one or more nonconformities for a cumulative total of 30 days (60 days for a recreation vehicle), the vehicle is presumed to be a lemon.

If you have to send letters and such to get the car labeled as a lemon, my personal deciphering of the legal talk to real talk - if you want to get your car labeled as a lemon for the ac repair taking a long time you can, or if you'd rather not have your car called a lemon, just wait for the parts to come in and for the ac to get fixed. I don't think the dealer is going to do paperwork to get the car labeled as a lemon unless the owner goes down that path.

From my understanding BMW will elect to buy back the vehicle and replace it with a new one before it goes to the point of being a lemon. Once its labeled as a lemon I believe it goes on the cars title? and the value tanks.
I've been down this path with my F10 where bmw could not get the part they needed to fix my car for over 2 months and the eta kept changing. At that point it was quicker to just order me a new car. At the end they actually fixed my F10 a week before my replacement car showed up but it didn't matter anymore. Took home the new car and never looked back.

Go here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2020/B...Communications
And scroll down to Manufacturer Communications and scroll through the 10 pages of TSBs to find what you need! The "Associated Document" gives you a link to the TSB PDF. |

Looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer before pulling the trigger on any one of the three newer models I am interested in cause the issues you guys are having will make me blow a fu**ing gasket!
I have patients but some things are just unacceptable especially when you pay a premium for a high end vehicle.. I still love bimmer to death but they need to make this right... payment free until cars are done maybe? Anyways I'll be in my F85 until all the bugs are sorted out, good luck gentlemen.

I probably should have said 2 to 3 months. It shouldn't take that long if the company that makes the AC Compressors is running. I looked up two different companies that supply AC compressors to BMW and neither are claiming they provide them for the 2020 X5M. I don't know where the compressors are coming from and BMW doesn't know where they are. I wonder where they build these compressors, guessing not near the Spartanburg S.C. Plant |

No Issue with AC
My 2020 X5M Comp, was build June 16. I picked at dealership on 21 June and no issues with AC. Also, was able to remote start my X5M Comp using the BmwConnect App. I love it.

^^ Just pay attention to the AC. Mine worked great for the first few days before it went to shit. Hopefully they resolved the issue on recent builds.

That’s encouraging. If you don’t mind, please post an update here when you have north of 300 miles on the car (if not already) as it sounds like most AC issues reported here are happening within the first few hundred miles. Many thanks in advance.

This issue is definitely something that would give me pause on ordering any new V8 BMW. I wouldn't want to spend any time in a vehicle with no AC during the summer or an inferior loaner after spending $100k+ on a vehicle and still making payments.
Sounds like BMW has a real problem on their hands with these compressors. Hopefully they find a solution so not many vehicles will be affected. |

My M850 was built 06/2019 and is still cooling very well...it did have one or two cooling hiccups very early on around 500 miles and after resetting the AC via I drive it's been fine thus far, but I still only have 800 miles or so
We need to get a hold of the BMW TSB so we know the production range affected. Any BMW sales/tech people here that can help?

Posted on the 8-series forum, software update coming soon for AC. I would assume this would also come to X5's possibly.

It sounds like it would work, if the ac alternated between hot and cold. I think the problem with the X5M's is that the AC worked initially, then started blowing hot air only, for me on day 2 of ownership and about 150 miles. Hopefully the software change can help some folks, but I'm fairly certain Alan and I need parts.

Sounds like there are two different issues going on in the 8 series thread. One with AC Compressor failure like most of us here and the other is where the AC would blow cold but turn off due to system/sensor thinking its too cold which a software update could fix.
