Congrats! Cool build. This is close to how I'd build one. Just one question on your choices. Why do I see many M Sport builds picking the air suspension over the M Adaptive suspension? What was the reason you went this route?

I made the same choice, and it basically a ride quality vs "sporty" quality imho. The M50i is my wifes car who will most likely drive it mostly in Comfort (or maybe even ECO) so comfort (cushy ride) is the priority. We had to go M50i over x40i to get the luxury bits on the inside with the crazy new option reduction...

Thanks! The main reason I went with it was for comfort. I like the plush ride in combination with speed, especially in an SUV/SAV. If this were a 3 or 5 series, the suspension choice may have been different. We'll see how it is once I get it!

What part of the country are you in? 10% discount seems pretty good based on what I’ve read here.

Just about to ask that. Through a broker that usually has aggressive discounts he's offering 8%. That extra discount could sway me. With a bigger discount on the M550 (and better residuals), I just can't justify the nearly $200/month delta to get in to an X5 instead.

I use a FL based broker... my M50i currently at 10% off MSRP before incentives, plus base MF AND PCD delivery (if COVID doesn't mess that up.) Should net 12-13% off after incentives. He also indicated he is seeing accelerated build dates and deliveries. If you hunt for the right CA/Dealer or engage the right Broker, you should do better than 7-8% off. I am in Atlanta and have tried with both big local dealers to get them to even "try" to get close, and they both have refused. Will hit discounts from MSRP, but play with MF and Incentives...

You are correct, the actual production doesn't being until August. The "Production Begins" status just means it is schedule, parts assigned, made, etc.

My week 32 scheduled '21 X5 M50i just went from Scheduled for Production to Production Begins. Based on above, I assume this means everything is still on schedule for actual assembly starting in Week 32.

Ordered the 21 X5 M50i back July 14. Got immediately a production number but no advancement since, according to the tracker. I called BMW Genius and they have an estimated start of production in week 32 and week 36 for final assembly. I really hope there wont be any delays. Seems like folks here have gotten much better tracker updates.
Any advice would be appreciated. Last edited by supdes; 07-24-2020 at 07:53 PM.. |
