Question for the masses,
Does anyone know if BMW made a 20" version of the 741 rims? I have seen not one but 2 sets of these with blizzak tires have cropped up locally for sale and wondered if maybe it was a previous year's winter set that's no longer offered or something? These are fully painted black or dark grey. Or probably just replicas trying to be passed off as OEM Rims? |

Had my winters put on recently.
Tires: Michelin - X-Ice Snow - P275/45R20 XL 110T BSW Wheels: Ruffino Rayden 20x9 +35 square setup. Kinda regret getting another set of black wheels for winter as it's hard to see them in pics and most people can't tell the difference from my black 742M wheels. Shoulda gone with the 747 reps I was looking at but oh well!

Thanks for all that shared their winter setups, really helped me figure out what to go with.
Finally decided to go with a square setup of 20” Replika style R233 and 275/45R20 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA5 SUV Runflats. Edit: Bought the whole setup from pmctire.com. They were shipped to my doorstep in Edmonton, Alberta fully assembled and filled with Nitrogen for 3,100CAD. This is the link of the wheels: https://pmctire.com/en/wheels/replik...deport-35.tire First picture is the Summer 21” setup, and the second is the Winter 20” setup. I did all that.. I knew they fit but some websites were saying " does not fit sport brakes " so I was a little confused and just wanted to confirm before I bought the package.

This is what was confusing me with the 740s. Scroll down and see where it said " does not fit sport brakes " that's why I just wanted to confirm. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...20-36112470605 |

i can see how it's confusing, but that's why these shops will ask for your VIN upon ordering. if there's an issue, they'll let you know either before or after the transaction. on the BMWshop site, didn't you notice the photo shows the wheels mounted and clearing the M Sport brakes? |

Can you PM me about your winter setup? For some reason I can’t PM you. I’ve been looking around on the bmw site and can’t find any available setups.

Hey guys...So my new 2022 X5 x40i with M Brakes is arriving in a couple of weeks and I went with the 21" 741M staggered wheel set. As you all know those come with Summer tires, so I need a winter wheel set being that I live in NYC...
Problem is the 20" and 21" winter wheel set from BMW (740M and 741M) are nowhere to be found and no availability in sight. So...I bought OEM 21" Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires from TireRack. It's a staggered set up with 275/40 R21 FRONT and 315/35 R21 REAR. The tires will arrive next week--but I have no wheels. And I don't want to swap tires with the original wheels if I don't have to. So I'm looking at eBay for aftermarket rims to hold me over for the winter. I found these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/313451583463 The bolt pattern and rim widths match, but the only thing that is throwing me off are the offsets. According to the parts website for the 741Ms which my car will ship with, the front offset is 37mm and rear is 43mm. The aftermarket rims on eBay are 37mm F and 40mm R. Will that work for my 40i w/ M brakes? What exactly will the offset affect if it's wrong? 3mm sounds like it would be an acceptable difference right? Any advice/guidance would be appreciated. You should be ok as the rears will poke out an extra 3mm. I have been doing the same exercise with offsets being less than the standard BMW wheels.
I would be very cautious about buying non OEM BMW alloys on ebay as these will be cast alloys so much heavier in weight and more prone to being damage easier and a potential quality issue. If you can afford it a flow forge or forge alloy would be better. Good luck with the purchase.

I wouldn't mind but I can't seem to find any better ones (set of 4) on ebay that are not used/scratched. This is my first time having to get a winter wheel set so totally new to all of this. The seller reviews are all extremely positive and as long as they don't weigh much less, I'll be satisfied. And this is only to hold me over until I can find a nice OEM set.
Now...I ordered 4x TPMS from TireRack, and hope to have my tire guy mount the tires and install the sensors and balance the wheels. Is that all I'll need to do? Anything else I'm missing? Last edited by mannym122; 11-20-2021 at 11:35 AM.. |
