If you don't need the vehicle then I would. You obviously risk losing some other options/features but will have a better chance of getting a touchscreen.

My X6 finished production today. It does not show a touch screen delete or back up assistant delete. In my instance my build week moved from 44 to 47, which I've been told was to wait for option parts. I also have a trailer hitch (03AC), which is still a X6 Build Your Own option.

BTW, CA stated as much 2 weeks ago when it flipped to 150 and now My BMW Garage agrees. He was surprised that BMW didn't force fit 21" wheels, that the extend shadowline was intact, etc. as he had been seeing all sorts of funky things happen.

It boggles my mind that there was such a small window of vehicles not getting touchscreens. How can BMW justify that? I understood it when it seemed like it could go on for a year or or better - but this is a real slap to those who took a car without a touchscreen. I would be pissed!

This is why I was so pissed, they confirmed nothing else would be removed but then removed touch screen and I had good reason to believe it would be short lived. Good luck selling a non touch version if you ever plan to sell the car. I think it will be really hard to sell it but I also do not think it would be hard to add it but software updates would be problematic each time you go to the dealer.

I wonder if there is any recourse for those of us who took delivery in that time frame? If we needed the car, there really was no choice. But for those who can and were able to re-order that's a much better option. BMW should really make this right for the affected customers.

I suspect that’s why they had folks sign the paper to ensure that they are willingly accepting the vehicle as is.

My VIN K49xxx car has entered the assembly line (Status 153). I do not have "individual" interior, just standard Vernasca leather. So far no deletes are showing in MyGarage but my VIN still does not decode. If my car does indeed come with the touchscreen then the "touchless" window was only a couple of weeks and I feel terrible for those that were unlucky with the timing. BMWNA should honestly make it right.

How many vehicles would you guys estimate fell into that "touchless" window?

Now I am really torn. On one hand I have a build that will be ready to pick up from the dealer in very near future that is missing touchscreen BUT has a trailer hitch. On the other hand, I have the option to reorder and get a touchscreen (based on what is being reported recently in this thread), BUT I would lose out on the trailer hitch. Sometimes I think Sophie had an easier choice 🤔.

You can add a hitch on your own. The touchscreen sounds like a major pain in the ass. You will not want to be trading in a touchless car down the road. I hate that you are in such a bind.

And BMW NA did reach out to me and handled my situation. They acknowledged that it was indeed a terrible situation that should have never happened and moved me allocation to a new dealer with confirmed touch screen. My wife ended up decided to shift to an X7 M50I but confirmed that it will have touch screen and goes into production in 10 days. We still have dibs on an X5 M50I if she changes her mind in the next few days and confirmed that would also have touch screen. My new rep at the new dealer confirmed they are fully back on everything moving forward. The irony is my other car arrived today to the dealership.

I will say on this. I called BMWNA about an hour ago and she said she hasn't heard any word about touchscreens being back. She didn't really know anything on her end. I will say my build is being completed Dec 2, its in "Production begins" now. I have yet to receive any removal or hitch add on as of now. Someone from my dealership with the same exact build as mine is receiving theirs tomorrow, and they did not have the touchscreen removal show, but a hitch added. Time will tell, hope I am safe.

True. Adding a trailer hitch on own is prb the same cost at paying retail for a new screen from dealership (heard the stealth hitch costs $2k+ with installation). When you ordered yours, had the trailer hitch already been pulled from the options on the BMW configurator? It's crazy to think that BMW would only have a couple week window of bum screens and that if it's really that small of a window (which would lead me to think not an insanely large number of cars were impacted) they wouldn't just recall the impacted cars and fix down the road (isn't like they built with the touch less screens for multiple years).

Plan is to keep the car 10 years so trade-in value will suck either way, so resale part isn't a huge factor for me (I would think after that timeframe any missing options will have a much more muted impact). I'm just wanting the best ownership experience over that timeframe. Would hate to reorder only to be told: oops, we are out of touchscreens again.

My order was accepted on 10/11. I did put a hitch on the build but was told it would probably get deleted. I kept waiting for that to happen and it never did. They must have had a cut off that I fell in the right side of - literally never happens!


I read somewhere that BMW produces 1500 cars a day - not sure how many of those could have been affected. It’s bs for them to know they had such a small window of no touchscreens and not fix it.
