X5M base has different center console than Comp in terms of ambient lighting?
Any reason why they wouldn't run the ambient lighting in the X5M Comp all the way down the entire center console on both sides like they do with the base model? Aren't they the same center console basically?
The pic is what it looks like in the the X5M base (and normal non-M X5) models....

The X5MC has the same console as all X6's - it has the raised leather 'humps' on either side that encapsulate the console area. Normal X5's and the base X5M don't have them.
When you have the humps, the lights are run differently for some reason. Maybe they modelled it and it looked odd running the lights all the way down after breaking out from the humps I definitely like the humps though - makes a nice knee rest for my long ass legs. |

No, they aren't....they are different. Mobilejo is correct, it has the raised hump and for whatever reason the piece for these ones only have the ambient lighting down to the end of the compartment/phone charging/cigarette lighter door. The pic I put above is what base X5M people have.....those of us with X5MC don't have that lighting in the center console running down even half as much.

Which is the same as all versions of the X6. The light is only within the hump: |

Yep exactly…and the way the hump is shaped I can tell you can't just switch out the trim pieces either. I wanted that extended ambient strip but oh well….crazy they did that. No one probably notices….

ha I did - beyond the comps not getting the PenFed rebate it's one of the main reasons I passed on the comp package - those humps and that badge weren't my thang.

Yeah it's weak….that center console lighting strip is kind of the main ambient lighting strips in the car and it sucks not to have it. Oh well.

Having said that, my legs are super long so 1) the knee pads are essential as my leg sits right against it, and 2) my legs block most of the centre console from my view when I'm driving so I wouldn't see those lights most of the time anyway Would be nice to have both, but the BMW gods decided that was not to be... |
