I'm assuming it is a 40i as you have a Space-saver spare which is not available for the 45e.

First car was a 320i, then a 325ix, then a 740i. I wish I had never sold the 325ix. Great looking X5! We are close to Auburn/Opelika and our son lives in Birmingham.

Thanks!

I have a question, regarding the space saver, as I was thinking of getting one for my X6, and I see you have the same Wheels (22") so what size Space saver have you got ?

Biggest ones I could find were 19" ones, is that what BMW provide ?

I fully agree with this comment regarding your choise of wheels, the Conti's are a great tire.

Did you get the air-suspension or the Adaptive M-suspension?

I've only got the Adaptive M-suspension and for me the 22" 742s non-run-flat Conti's provide a nice compliant ride, softer and less jarring than the 20" Alenza RFTs I had in my first G05 ride.

Congratulations & enjoy the new ride !

Adaptive M suspension. Air was not available. I fully believe the 22's ride as good if not better than the PCD X5 with 20's. Now I realize ours just rolled off the assembly line and their X5's get a lot of hard use. However, from everything I have read the 22's should ride much much worse than any 20". Now I think most of what I read are only opinions probably from folks who have no actual experience with both 20's and 22's but assume 22's would be worse only because of less sidewall.

Yes, the space saver spare is the same no matter what wheels you get.

Just thought I would give some info that I wondered about and have seen others ask the same. Also, some is just my opinion based on driving another X5 during PCD and five hours home after the PCD yesterday. I know some will say, "oh that's not enough time, blah, blah" but I have driven and owned enough vehicles in my life and am very picky about ride, noise, etc to know if I am happy or not with whatever it is very quickly. I have had 18 vehicles since I was 16 plus wife's 10 in last 21 years. Our X5 had a production date of 7/22.

First the vehicle stuff:
Ordered the 22" 742M's and after reading various opinions was super concerned it was a mistake. With regard to ride and road noise I can say it was not a mistake. They are Continentals, quiet and very comfy. I can see no meaningful differences in them and the 20's on the X5 driven during PCD day. Could there be tire and wheel damage be in our future, maybe, but our roads here are pretty good when compared with other areas.

The color AC display is back!!!!!!!! Very glad to get it.

Couldn't get Luxury Seating at time of order and was disappointed about missing out on ventilated seats. I noticed they were in PCD X5 so tried them out. Turned them on hi and in a bit noticed some noise then finally realized it was the seat! It would drive me nuts. They were cooling at hi but turned down to 2 and noise went away but cooling was then barely noticeable. No longer disappointed we didn't get that.

Vernasca (I know it's gone) vs Merino. We drove around all day in the PCD X5 with Merino and then got in ours with purposefully chosen Vernasca and I could not tell a huge difference. I think after a bit of use the Vernasca seats will feel nearly the same. The peace of mind I get with not worrying about scratching or otherwise damaging the Merino leather in our daily life is well worth foregoing that option.

X5 is truly amazing. I have a Land Rover Discovery which I thought was a really great, over the top kind of vehicle but it isn't compared to the X5. The Discovery probably beats the X5 in pure off-roading ability but not by much. The X5 stomps the Discovery in tech. The Discovery is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever had, hands down until now. The X5 is a big winner there too. Also, the acceleration of the X5 feels significantly better than the Discovery. Specs say they are very similar but there is no comparison real world, X5 is the big winner.

PCD - One of the best things I have ever done, period. They start with classroom instruction about what you will be doing, skid pad, road course, braking course and off road. This class time also includes some very useful instruction for everyday driving. Something we can all use daily for the rest of our lives, not just there. Everything is beyond first class from the way you are treated at the Marriott at dinner the night before to your last second there. People on here talk about their CA or Genius at the dealer spending 30 or 40 minutes teaching you about the car. Hope, at PCD spent over two hours going over every detail about the car, inside and out. Plus, she was absolutely delightful. Clint, our driving instructor is a born teacher. He made the day unbelievably fun while also teaching us important things about driving. He also threw in amazing info about the X5's. I had zero clue that you can gradually pull up on the parking brake and bring the vehicle to a stop as if you were braking with your foot. You may think so what, but he had an amazing story about how that could be a literal life saver. We were able to tour the X3 and X4 production line and it was fantastic. I could not believe the attention to detail and quality control that is in place for these vehicles. BMW also places a high priority on associate engagement. All associates are trained in 4 to 6 areas of production to reduce fatigue and I would assume boredom. Their employee turnover rate is 3%, enough said. Some sources say manufacturing turnover rates are approaching 40%. I am pretty glad I got a vehicle from a manufacturer with 3% turnover rate.

Overall, this whole experience accomplished what I believe BMW intends. I truly cannot see myself buying any vehicle other than a BMW in the future. This is our third one but it's been 9 years since the last and we had never heard of the PCD experience. With what we learned, the amazing hospitality and pure enjoyment of the day why would we buy something else?
It's hard to put into words how great the PCD experience is and you've done a great job. For those who have done it, you know. For those who haven't, just do it already. It is a truly awesome experience.

Great description by OP. It'll be a week tomorrow that we picked up our 23 45e at PCD and drive it home 500 miles.[IMG][/IMG]

Would also highly encourage the PCD route if possible. Clint as a driving instructor and Hope as our delivery specialist were both exactly as described. Above and beyond.

We were very fortunate that all the options were open when we configured, and we went with:

45e
M Sport, 21" wheels, run flat performance tires
Extended Shadowline trim
Carbon Black
Tartufo interior
Anthracite Brown Poplar Matte trim
Executive package
Extended Merino Leather
4 zone climate control
Multi-Contour seats
Red M-Sport brakes
Heated steering wheel / armrests
Harmon Kardon Audio

If you do go to PCD, suggest planning for time in Greenville, found it to be a very nice place to walk, shop, eat, drink, people watch, etc.
