particulate and charcoal both installed?
For cabin filters, I just noticed on realoem that the -209 is a particulate filter and the -208 is an activated charcoal filter. To make things more confusing they show each as a set but show both numbers in the car.
Edit: Mine had 2 -208 installed. The air does not flow through in series as I had thought. Half the air goes through each one. Last edited by Bking60; 11-20-2022 at 10:06 AM.. Reason: correcting previous guesses. |

I found this DIY on here, he says the G05 does not have a pollen filter. Just the two charcoal filters under the passenger dash.
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1843078 Pelican has a good choice of these. |

You either purchase and install the activated charcoal micro filters…or the plain filters (just for fine dust). The activated charcoal filters (208) help to eliminate odors as well as dust…where as the plain filters (209) just filter dust. And yes, the set includes two of the same type of filters.

It looks like the G05 interior cabin microfilter has a similar design architecture as some of the F chassis BMWs of the past. Both my f06 & f15 have this same double micro filter design.
You can see in the illustration below how fresh air comes into the system and is directed and channeled though these two microfilters (#5 in both illustrations)…as well as recirculated air when the fresh air flaps are closed. BMW offers a choice of activated carbon/charcoal to help reduce odors…or just plain filters for dust/pollen only:

There is also a new nanoparticle filter, supposedly available but I think people have a hard time finding it.

Probably or eventually.
The course filter on my 2013 F06 did...but it was because it bit the dust. It started to disintegrate and you could hear the course pieces of plastic being chewed up in the blower. If you were to hear a change in the blower...as the sound changes due to the filter becoming clogged...yes, I'd take a look at the course filter to see if it could be cleaned or needed to be changed. You can see the course filter in the images below...it is made of plastic and looks similar to a scrub pad...it fits where there are openings in the cover that fits over the intake for the HVAC blower in the engine bay:
