Wrapping rear diffuser
Has anyone wrapped the rear diffuser? I’m contemplating a wrap versus replacing it in order to match the black lower area. I believe it’ll cost about the same, $150-200. Please post a picture if you’ve done it. Ty.

Just some data: My (very competent) wrapper really didn't want to do it. He didn't give me a go-away price, but did say it would be really time consuming for its size with all the nooks and crannies of the design. He would do it if I insisted, but I have not pulled the trigger. Mine is the one with the NA tow package cutout, so getting pre-painted ready-to-install aftermarket replacement is tricky as well.

It's hard to see in this photo. I'll take some close up ones later.

Wrapping rear diffuser
Thank you guys. Picking up the new X5 this weekend, so I need to make a decision because that bumper area just doesn’t look right.

I'm not a wrap professional..... but there's a couple reasons I think you should go with paint:
1) There are "negative" areas on the diffuser, which means the wrap would have to be "stretched in", versus "stretched out". I imagine this is why your wrapper was hesitant. I suspect the chance of failure is much higher. 2) you will never find an exact match for the area above the diffuser. It's not "black".... it's gray, and it's the only thing on the car that is that colr (weird, right?) Paint.... you can match exactly. I would recommend you either have the diffuser painted grey to match the upper bumper area...... or just have them both painted whatever color you want.

I wrapped the rear diffuser and the side skirts in gloss black, end the mirror with fake carbon grey. This is the result. I'm looking for a front lip but it's not so easy to find on the web

Edit: I found the gloss black Amazon one without the hitch option (top link). I also found the primer diffuser to just get painted the glass black or whatever I want (second link). https://www.amazon.com/IKON-MOTORSPO...me=2022+BMW+X5 https://www.bmwdirectparts.com/oem-p...te-51128099115 Last edited by S68 X5MC; 10-06-2022 at 11:59 AM.. |
