The performance exhaust came standard on my 2022 vermilion edition, but I can’t tell any difference

Thanks to turtleboy I ended up here after seeing the available services for the first time! I like the idea but also am reluctant if it’s too loud. I see dealership can undo for you but if you have reduced option, will that put it back to original? Thanks.

Wonder how different it is to the standard ASD that comes on the car. I can definitely tell a difference when I code it off.

Do all G05 have ASD? How does it sound when you code it off? Thanks.

How did you do it? With Bimmercode to open flaps and then pull fuse? Or car in sport+ mode, engine running and in park, then pull fuse? Thanks

Good catch! Yes. The other app not used for coding. Haha. I’m sure I’ll find another purpose for BimmerLink one day.

Probably will be a few years yet but you can register a new battery.

You won't see it on your car settings unless the app is downloaded. I saw somewhere in the fine print that the app is available for MY2021 and newer. My guess is because of "connected drive" allowing over-the-air upgrades. I'm not 100% sure...so maybe the dealer genius guy can answer that for you.

To my surprise, the "Engine Sound" option wasn't available in the iDrive menu like my previous BMWs. I stumbled across "IconicSounds" in the BMW App store and bought it. WTH? This should be standard. Anyways- for $100, it's 100% worth it. The sound inside the cabin is transformed and it almost feels/sounds like my friend's X5 M50i inside. It rawrs!

Between the IconicSounds, the exhaust flap mod, finding the option to enable the tach in the HUD (lol- didn't think it had this option), and another nameless mod (hehe), this SAV is now amazingly fun while keeping its ability to be quiet and relaxed on the highway.

I highly recommend.
I just activated it today. Great app! Thanks for sharing this tip.

Once the Iconic Sounds App is activated, you can go to Settings>Display>HUD and check >Sport Display. The Tach will appear in all driving modes in your HUD.

Yup...no flap action at all. But instead, a synthesized engine sound in the cabin at all times. With the app activated, you can go to settings and adjust, You can select "balanced", "reduced", or "sporty" level of sound. Its full time sound and (sounds) speed sensitive. It is NOT like the synthesized "iconic sounds" that are in the BMW electric cars. Those EV cars sounds (at least to my ears) like electric-zoom, space ship ride.
This app sounds like a modest, but smooth V8.
NO, this app does NOT make a non M car sound full fat with rasp, burbles, pops. Nor is it a substitute for a real M Performance exhaust upgrade (about $3K). Instead, all the sound is inside the cabin...Good app for those who want hear the subtle sound of a robust engine while cruising around but don't want to pay the price of an M car (like me).

Thanks for the update. I want to get it but concerned by the other poster that said it would be annoying on freeway ride. I did some more search and it seemed to go back to the same one poster. How does it sound in reduced or ECO mode? Does it bother you? I just don't want my wife to give me the weird look. I need a way to reduce it/turn it off when driving with her. Thanks.

In all sense, the m perf exhaust with its flap opened covers the engine sound at low revs.
At high revs the engine sound does come into the csbin better.
I like it.
Both the sound and the mperf exhaust.
Perfect.

Thanks. Sonif I read your post right, if I don’t drive aggressively it shouldn’t be noticeable. Right? I just don’t want to havto go to the dealership to undo it.

awww heck I'm gonna try it out too. If it is really obnoxious it appears you can just cancel/refund it.

M Performance exhaust might still get ordered, just have to hold my nose and set my credit card on fire meh

EDIT: hahaha, I did it and it's not too bad or obnoxious and in the reduced mode I couldn't hear it at all.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. If it/wife bothers me, I will have it undone. Just didn’t want to make a trip to the dealership. But what the heck! So I did it. I tried different modes and left it in first choice - depending on driving mode. I can hear more noise during comfort but if I keep my foot light, it’s not noticeable. In S+ it does give some noise. So I will keep it. Since it reset my codes, I had to recode the cluster and other stuff. I noticed the below:
- Cluster in M performance will keep the tachometer on HUD but not M. When in this display mode and at end of coding, I got the display with all doors open on the cluster when stopped the drive. Not sure if this is normal. I thought I bricked it!
- I like the M display but I lose tachometer on HUD and also can’t tell which S I’m in. So I may have to code to M performance.
Thanks OP for sharing. It’s nice addition IMO. The sound doesn’t bother me.

Btw you don’t need to buy this option to enable the menu. It can be done via Bimmercode. Here are more details: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1666087
