Yes, chemical smell that lasted a couple days, left it outside to air out. One disappointment is they make the sunshade in Mexico. And the fit is superb.

Just received my X5 OEM sunshade from getbmwparts.com. As noted earlier in the thread, the cost + shipping ended up being just under $80. And YES, I agree that the product quality is very good -- It is definitely better than the OEM one I have for my M4.

The G05 is completely sold out, with no ETA on backorder. Has anyone tried the F15 version?

My go to for sunshades for the last 20 years or so has been https://heatshieldstore.com/ They added cars to their business in the 80's after years of making covers for aircraft.
I'm in Florida and a sunshade is essential for any car parked outside regularly. They're well made and hold up well. I had one for my E60 that was still in good shape after 11 years as a daily driver with daily use of the sunshade. I've got one for my Z4 and one for my GMC which is parked outside all the time (the Bimmers are in the garage.) The big difference from the BMW sunshade is they roll up rather than fold. But for my G05 I went with https://www.weathertech.com/ as they have a good deal on a set that covers all the windows. There are a few times a year I want to block out all the windows. They're a little bit thinner than the Heatshield ones, but appear just as good and they fit better (they fit snug in the openings with nothing else to hold them.) They're also reversible silver/black. You can put the black side out if you want to retain heat in the winter. Gerry

I have heatshield from my previous cars too, they are custom fit, and can include side window. I am happy with headshield, just they are not cheap. Two of my headshield piece are 19 years and 13 years old. I would say they are still in very good condition.
My only complain with headshield type and BMW oem type is when they are folded, they are still very big. For G05, I bought a soft one, those bend and folded into smaller circuit. Still custom fit, double layer thick material. So far I am happy with it too, but my G05 is months old, so cannot comment on long term quality
