What is the 8TR option code?
What option is 8TR? I can't find description anywhere. Guide says "Color C28 and ZDY will add 8TR to the order"
C28 is Donnington |

8TR is a decoding code. Usually limits features in the car. Not sure what it would have to do with colour, but its usually paired with 5AU (DAP).
In the UK it prevents use of Automatic Lane Change. Not sure what it will do on a US car, probably be ignored. Last edited by archivedaccount; 10-14-2019 at 03:53 PM.. |

Putting a couple of items together, perhaps 8TR addition means C28 colour doesn't support some aspect of ZDY (Driving Assistant Professional) functionality. I believe from earlier posts that in earlier versions of G05 X5 (late 2018 and early 2019 production dates), there was another colour that limited driving automation functionality for some reason (Sunstone) — perhaps C28 colour has the same issue?
Here is a thread discussing Sunstone and lack of ACC: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1598246

Use the online configurator and it will tell you either the options it is deleting or prevent you from choosing options that are incompatible with the color (or whatever it is that is limiting your options).
For the 2018 X3 was in production you could pick a bunch driving assist options. Then if you changed the color to sunstone the configurator would pop up a window saying it was deleting the driving assist options you had picked. |

Ford had something with their system too... I would bet most do. It has to do with the amount of metal in a color or what is actually in the paint. Sensors that don't use vision can pick things up based on magnetic field or interference and vision can do to certain colors. I remember I was working on a robotic cell where the tray part sensor (capacitive) would pick up on silver but not gray. We found that the amount of metal in the paint caused it to flag the sensor. That sensor was looking for an empty spot not a part present. Just my thoughts...

hi,
is possible that 8TR is blocking speed limit info? I see in car certificate, coding correct but on sign is only info "LIMIT" Last edited by Wojti_; 04-27-2022 at 02:36 AM.. |

Some individual colors disable the lane change feature. Something to do with reflectivity of paint? I guess. Someone with an individual color should know

Frozen black in my m8c has auto lane change disabled. I think the frozen colors aren't certified as a proven radar bounce back target. Production numbers are so limited that BMW doesn't take the time to certify these colors.

My car is DG and I removed and reprogrammed without 8tr. My car successfully lane changes abt as frequently as a Tesla so I suspect this is more of a liability issue than a software issue curious to hear others experience.

Can you share how exactly you did that? What did you change and how?

If you look up VO coding in e-Sys it’s pretty easy to do. Remove 8tr from VO and recode a few of the ecus. I can get you the full list of ecus if you want to move forward with it. It is easier than coding anti-dazzle but same software.
