I just left the dealer and was told the touchscreen issue was only for cars built within that 2-3 week period in October. The recent cars have it.

That is what we have seen (except it was Nov builds also) and hopefully it continues that way.

Are only custom built orders being impacted by the touch screen issue or is this the case for the cars on dealers lots as well? Also, is there a summary somewhere of what BMW has changed for 2022 X5's? Thx

All vehicles built during that time period were affected.

Nothing official from BMW but this thread has a good list.

In general all orders are "custom" in that dealers order cars with options whether its for them or a customer. There are some details to that, like for example "priority 1" (customer) orders can unlock certain individual options that - technically - a dealer can't order for their lot stock, but other than that it doesn't change anything at the factory as far as has ever been reported.

I can confirm as I've seen (actually seen) X3 M40is deliver this past week with H/K installed even though it's not showing available by BMW. Found out they were all customer ordered.

Also I will add the last batch of X5s that arrived at the dealer by me this week all had touchscreens and all have had them for the past month. I think the issue was resolved (for now at least).

My order update.
As many of you may know, my first order fell into the 2/3 weeks "touchless window". I declined my delivery and placed a new order with another dealer before thanks giving.

Today, my new order made it through the assembly line with a touchscreen and a hitch. I just want to express my appreciation to everyone. It's not just me but several of my friends who benefited from the timely update so we can make a informed decision. I'm not a bimmer, but surely a fan of this forum.

My new order:

Great news! Did you specifically order a hitch? I wasn't smart enough to ask...just didn't think it was an option.

I am supposed to take delivery this afternoon with a touchscreen...

The hitch is like a miracle.

I was about to accept my touchless car because I really need the hitch. But I want to give it another try as someone mentioned their cars were built with hitches even after it's an option. So I emailed several dealers around me with my build and one of them replied saying they can order.

I guess it's because it's a ealier allocation?

Today, I left my X6 at the dealer for a recall fix, and they provided me with a loaner car. It is a 2022 X5, with 970 miles on it, and in addition to being a new vehicle, it Does NOT have Touchscreen.
Granted, I only use the Touchscreen in my car to answer and end calls, and to open messages (not a lot of use); however, this made me realize that:
- This function to me is a must!
- Putting this car in the loaner fleet, makes me think that the BMW dealer is well aware of how big this deficiency is.
- Down the road, this option deficit will likely have a negative impact in the resale value.
- If my build (due for completion 12/2021), comes devoid of Touchscreen, I’ll no doubt refuse it.

Just my 2 centavos.

All 2021's have a touchscreen. Are you sure it wasn't a recently built 2022?

similar story here. I declined and re-ordered, car is awaiting carrier now, with no 6UY code.
thanks to the sub, I saw touchscreen comes back when I'm debating whether I should accept the original order or not.

Does 45e 2022 standard sport seats come with lumbar support on both front seats?

Yes, the X5 has not been hit with that removal, yet.

That will be nice and I can then delete my contour seats and trying all ways to match the new bill of 69k minimum requirement for 2022 ev credit. That is a tough bill, nothing better for 45e buyers, possibly losing all 7500 credits

To be clear, $69k cap(not a min, it's an MSRP cap) isn't in effect and there's still reconciliation to be done to arrive at what's actually written into law.

$69k was in early draft, latest discussion was $80k but it didn't make its way into bill that passed House.

There's also the timing aspect, ie if you take delivery before new bill gets signed into law, the cap doesn't matter at all.

Just making sure you're aware of all the factors as you triangulate a solution.

Thanks, the bill is confusing to me anyway as my dealer included the destination around 1k inside, but when build online the MSRP has no destination fees included.

We also don't know if the 69k or 80k or whatever will be the base price or the actual price of the vehicle. While the wording in the bill doesn't specify what the cap is used for (IRS or the agency creating a list of eligible vehicles in which case it would be the base) or the filer filling out the form (then it would be the actual MSRP).

The timing aspect would matter since the credit(s) will be effective for vehicles purchased after 12/31/21 and likely will be retroactive to that no matter when it is passed (if it is after 12/31/21).

Agree with all the points. Safer to take delivery this year if possible.
