I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 plus. Will that work?
I hadn't planned on upgrading anytime soon.... but if it means I will have navigation through my phone (on the center screen) I certainly will, without hesitation.

S9+ should be fine for wireless AA, see Android Auto Wireless supported phones. I'm running Pixel 3 XL so I'm in, too.

Ninefourteener you will have navigation of your choice to use, be it Waze or Google Maps, etc. You're going to freaking love AA, because it's some next level experience. I am happy for my Android brethren, even if you ruin my beautiful messaging app on iPhone with your nasty green texts!

This is awesome news..... The way things are going, I may never get navigation in my car from BMW.
So.... this will have to do. Although, admittedly, I have trust issues with their promise of "June 2020" |

Ninefourteener it should be good to know! At least we know the capability is there. I am weird...I use CarPlay, but still love the BMW Maps/Nav.

My car is in the factory waiting for the factory to startup again. Before buying the car a corp genius told me that I don't have to wait, AA will be an over the air update. I don't know if I can trust him. I am a long time user of AA with mostly good experiences. On some longer trips, AA suggested a route that was hours shorted (Google Maps) and turned out to be true.
My Audi uses wired AA. Wireless makes a lot of sense to me. Why place your phone on a wireless charging pad only to have to plug it in! Here are a couple of fun guys reviewing CP vs AA.

Now that I actually "have" my car, and understand how it works..... I wonder if this will even be available to me.
When is it supposed to be released again? I was lucky that they loaded European maps..... that's a huge weight off my shoulders... but I'm pretty sure I have absolutely no connected drive whatsoever...... which "I guess" means I will get no updates, right? |

I used AA for 4 years in my C7 Corvette. Works very well. Using Google maps everything is always up to date so no need to buy map updates. Also, traffic and weather info is provided. I hope I can add it to our '19 X5.

More Details on Android Auto integration and a video
Yes, it's going to be backward compatible 2019/20's with iDrive 7, so all G05 X5's!
from BMW blog: Earlier this year BMW made the headlines around the world announcing the implementation of Android Auto onboard its cars. Not only did BMW announce the support for this kind of connectivity, but they went all out and included wireless connections to the car’s infotainment system at no extra cost. The way Android Auto works on BMW models shows that the Germans put a lot of thought into it. The video below goes through some of the features. First of all, just like in the case of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto will be wireless. Furthermore, the Google Assistant features will be available as well. The best part is that some of the functions of the phone and some apps are integrated in the car’s instrument cluster and head-up display. That means, whenever you’re using Google Maps or Waze instead of the car’s navigation system, for example, the direction will pop up in those two areas as well. That goes for Spotify and other apps as well. To be honest, this has been a long time coming and it completes the offering of BMW connectivity. If you recall, BMW introduced the ‘smartphone as a key fob’ technology a while back, only to make the headlines again as now Apple devices will also have that feature. But long before that, Android phones could be used for the same purpose. Even so, Android Auto still wasn’t supported. Now that’s no longer the case. The best part about all of it is that cars already fitted with iDrive 7 systems can get an over the air update and support the new function as well. source: https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/06/25/d...roid-auto-bmw/ |

I assume BMW service depts will do this update for Android auto without question if it's not a OTA. I know right now they can refuse to update software unless your having issues.

Kinda pathetic OTA updates is such a big deal for BMW in 2020 since I have been getting OTA updates in my Ram trucks since 2014. Would be interested in a official/industry reason why BMW is lagging so far behind in technology FCA and other non luxury brands have mastered.

OK. But since they are just pushing out 2019.70 & 2020.30 has been at dealers for a while now, it could be quite a while before we see 07/2020 OTA. I think it may be end of year. Likely get it alot sooner at a dealer. And being major, the chances of problems is greater. I have read not unusual for dealer updates having problems .

BMW USA tech support confirmed it when I spoke to them.
Called about why my Car Key wasnt working in the BMW Android app on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S10. Apparently Verizon hasn't allowed this feature. BMW is claiming Verizon is wanting too much customer information while Verizon is claiming BMW left them out. |
