PIC request: 315/30/22 on 22x12 wheels
My Vossens are 22x10.5 front, and 22x12 rear.
For a little over a year... I ran ultra low profile tires (lower than stock) 335/25/22 295/30/22 ...And I cracked 2 rims in less than a year on Belgian potholes. For over 2 years, I ran TALLER sized tires: 325/35/22 285/40/22 .... And I had to raise my suspension because of rubbing. This time.... I am planning on running STOCK sized tires. My initial thought is to go with Continental Sport contact 7s... they are available in the OEM sizes.... and the tread patch is VERY wide (compared to other manufacturers). I'm not worried about the fronts... they'll be fine. I'm wondering how "stretched" the rears will be. I'm expecting a bit of a "stretched" look..... but I'm hoping to minimize that. I've read a LOT of posts, seen a lot of pictures... and a lot of people ask about the wheel width, tire sizes, ETs, etc.... and never get a response. PICTURE REQUEST: Anyone running a 315/30/22 stock-sized tire..... on a 22x12 rim??? If you have such a picture... please detail the BRAND of tire used, because there are VAST differences in tread width between manufacturers. Thanks in advance!!!

I plan on going with TALLER sized Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires: 325/35/22 285/40/22 but my X5 50e is not lowered like yours. My question for you: Do you think you would rub if you weren't lowered? I'll be sure to post pics once installed, it's taking forever. EDIT: It sounds like after you raised your suspension, you no longer rub. I think I answered my own question. Anyway, good to know at stock heights that size doesn't rub. Last edited by Matt 335is; 03-27-2024 at 03:49 PM.. |

THANK YOU!! That is EXACTLY what I needed to see. That actually looks quite good.
I know you said they are stock sized tires.... may I ask what BRAND/MODEL of tire you are using? Tread width varies GREATLY between manufacturers. For example... the section width and tread with on a Pirelli PZero, is nearly an INCH more narrow than a Continental Sport Contact 7.... ON THE SAME EXACT SIZE TIRE. That's why I ask.

Yes... they do rub. I would not advise it... even on a stock-height vehicle.

There is a slight amount of stretch using OEM tires, but it seems more noticeable in the front? Which is weird, because I went 1/2" wider in the rear, but kept the same width as OEM in front. Good to know that Contis have a wider track in the same sizes. I think I would like my next set of tires to be slightly fatter to fill the fender better with less stretch. If the Contentials are available in those sizes when I'm ready for a new set, I will likely go with them at that point. |

Then click on the brand above each of the options Then scroll down and click on "specs" You can compare that way.... and i did.... and the Conti Sports have the widest tread patch of any tire I could find. As soon as they arrive (I already ordered them).... and the wheels get back from powdercoat, I'll post pictures. I expect "a little" stretch, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Funny your post pops up when I am researching basically the opposite of what you are up to. Abeit I am running some pretty cheap tires(Accelera) but notice the stretch in the rear is quite a bit more than the front. I have 22x11 and 22x12 wheels with 275/35 315/30/22
I was wanting to go 275/40(or 285) and 325/35 on them for a little more sidewall and less stretch. Do you have any pictures of your wheels with taller sidewalls? |

I had to raise the air suspension up... and it still rubbed. If you want to see pictures, look at page 13 of my progress thread (in my signature) when i installed my "beefier" tires. Both the fronts and the rears rubbed. For a year prior to that, I ran a LOWER profile set of tires (335/25/22 and 295/30/22)... and I cracked 2 rims in less than a year. Those pictures start on page 8 of my progress thread. I would definitely NOT recommend either route. OEM sizes is the right way to go for the X5 That's EXACTLY why I am going back to OEM sidewall height, with OEM sized tires. There isn't anything available that is wider than OEM, with the same sidewall height. Trust me, I've looked... that's why i spent the time researching the widest tread patch tires on the market... which (I believe) is the Continental Sportcontact 7s. That's exactly what i bought. New tires will be arriving this week (OEM sized, Sport Contact 7s).... but the wheels may still be awhile before they come back from powdercoat. Maybe another week to 10 days and I'll have pics posted..

Front: 285/40/22 Rear: 325/35/22 And will take the risk of rubbing. I'll report back once installed, not sure when. There is another member who went with that size and reported no rubbing. Read through this thread: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1947092&page=2 |

The fronts rubbed too.... particularly when at full lock in either direction. Good luck. Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.

Yea, full lock at front is my biggest concern and hopefully if it does rub it's minor enough that I can live with it. |

New tires arrived today.
Can you fit STOCK sized tires, meant for 9.5 and 10.5 inch wide wheels.... ...On to 10.5 and 12 inch wide wheels, without having them look too "stretched"???? The answer..... is yes...... IF you buy the make/model tires with the widest tread patch on the market. Continental Sportcontact 7s. 275/35/22 front 315/30/22 rear. Still waiting on wheels to come back from powdercoat, but I feel VERY confident that these will fit my wheels well.

I noticed that.... I "usually" buy from Tirerack..... but in this instance, they were out of stock on Sportcontacts..... not sure why.
I ended up buying them from a tire place in Italy. A little over $1500 USD, shipped, including VAT tax, which I think was a pretty good deal. The last "taller/upsized" set I bought was from Tirerack..... Nitto NT420s.... I paid more than that.... and those tires are absolute garbage: Arguably the worst performing set of tires I've ever put on a car, ever.

I've ordered 275/40 and 315/35 for my 22x11/12 +34/+31(currently with 15mm spacers all around (effectively+19/+16)I guess we will see! They are on the cheaper side of tires, I guess that's how I roll lol. Chinese probably(Arroyo). I'm hoping that with a little more sidewall will impact the stretch some(less) and give a better wheel to tire ratio as well.
I saw you pictures in your build with the 285/325 35/40 and I don't want that much tire, but again your tread width may be off from mine. They do list tread width on Arroyo site, but it appears to have typos as the tread width for the 275's and 315's are the same(10.45669291), they've got the section width correct, but that's not what we are looking for fingers crossed it will workout well Last edited by TGMcCoy; 04-05-2024 at 08:09 PM.. |

Today I'm doing both front and rear BBKs, and then dropping the suspension back down to where it should be. Gimme a day or so.
