Richmond Railyard port

Hello for those in the Bay Area (California), how long did your car spend at the Richmond Railyard before getting to the Dealer? It has been close to 2 weeks now for me.

Haven't taken delivery myself either, but between "awaiting Carrier Assignment" to at dealership should be 3 weeks. What status are you today? Mine cleared "port" a week ago.

Also unclear is whether Richmond is actually "port". Last time I checked the only known VPC on the west coast is in Oxnard

I'm in the Bay Area and this is from a previous post. It's not exact to the day but it was the best I could reconstruct from emails and messages.

* April 29: Order Submitted
* May 12th: Scheduled for Production
* May 27th: Production Begins
* June 11th or 12th: Dispatched from Factory
* Somewhere between July 1st and 6th: Arrived in West Coast. I think the July 4th weekend delayed the transport to the dealer a bit.
* July 8th: Arrived at Dealer

Keep in mind though that this was right before things really started to get crazy. Not sure if dealer arrival timelines are impacted but worth mentioning.

Update: looks like it is in Richmond awaiting transport and expected delivery 12-14. This is close to 2.5 weeks for anyone who may be in the Bay Area and taking delivery around this time.

Thanks for posting - mine seems to be taking a lot of time in transit and I'm hoping it's not due for another long wait at the VPC (like the ACSM issue )

My rough calendar is:

Oct 02nd: Production Begins
Oct 12th: Entering Assembly Line
Oct 13th: Quality Check
Oct 14th: Awaiting Carrier Assignment
Oct 15th: Dispatched From Factory
Oct 20th: In Transit (but this is wrong)
Sometime around Oct 26th I believe it was in Kansas City
Sometime soon it should be in Richmond, but as of Friday, wasn't

So basically going on 3 weeks of train time to get from the factory to Richmond.

You still don't have your car?! Your car is exactly 10 days ahead of mine. I'm guessing if you receive your car next week, it would be week 4 since "awaiting carrier assignment", which means I would be about a week behind you, just in time for my PenFed to be eligible. But Richmond is in my metro area.

I need to pick up my car by end of month before my loan expires.

Mine was completed on 10/31 and made a train on Nov 1st. Transferred in KC on 11/6 and due in Richmond on 11/16. Dealer is in the Bay Area and my CA said to expect it to be ready for pickup before the 21st

I wouldn't be surprised that the delays at the railyard are due to a combination of worker issues and lack of truck drivers

there was a train derailment a few weeks ago I think in Arizona that delayed arrivals to Richmond for about 10-14 days based on previous ETAs. They're down to just about 5 days behind now.

Other factors are also at play

Here is my timeline based on the myBMW site:

8/3 = Submitted order and placed deposit
8/7 = Production Begins
8/14 = Entering Assembly Line
8/16 = Quality Check
8/17 = Awaiting Carrier Assignment
9/30 = Dispatched from Factory
10/5 = In Transit
10/26 = At the port
10/27 = At the dealership

I understand my timeline may be longer than others, particularly at the "Waiting Carrier Assignment" step where it took about 1.5 months before proceeding to the next step. I was not in a rush at the time so didn't really care. Fortunately I was able to take delivery before 11/2 though so could get the $1500 CA rebate instead of just the $750 if it had gotten here one week later.

Thanks for the detailed timeline! Mine went to In Transit status on 10/27, your timeline matches what my SA told me on the approx arrival time frame for mine which is this coming weekend (hopefully) or mid-next week.

FWIW, I actually called BMW Genius to confirm if there’s deletions on my X5 and its arrival date. I was surprised there was no hold time. Genius told me it should arrive at Richmond processing center today but they don’t know when it will arrive at my dealer until they got confirmation of the arrival at the processing center and wanted me to call back either Wednesday or Friday. So exactly where is this “Richmond processing center” at? Genius is also able to confirm no deletions on my order…. For those who are interested, here’s the link to BMW Genius contact info - https://www.bmwusa.com/owners/genius.html

So far it's all been consistent and as expected.

Interesting that you didn't get any deletions, do you know what day was your production start date?

Yep approx. I’m going by boba_balla’s timeline using In transit status which is 3 weeks and it matches what my SA told me on his estimate also when I asked him how long it takes from In transit status to the dealership. I’m going to call BMW Genius again on Wed to see if they have confirmation that the vehicle arrived at the Richmond processing center since the Genius told me they would only know the arrival date at the dealership after confirmation. You probably want do the same so you don’t pull all your hair out before the dealer calls you….

Our cars are probably going to be on the same truck. I’m waiting on a Xdrive40i to show up at Roseville soon. It says “in transit”
