5yr/75K Miles Maintenance Plan
Hey all,
Thanks in advance for advice. My wife wanted the maintenance package (Ultimate Care +) with the car, which the dealer sold us for $3200 for 5 years/75 miles. I want to cancel it, I don't think we will put more than 10k miles a year on the car. Given that I don't see how we'd ever spend $3200 for the service past year 3. For example, at 50k miles, I can't see us needing more than break pads on front and rear. It looks like spark plugs don't come till 60k. Is my thinking off here? Would appreciate some advice based on your all's experience. This is my first BMW, for context. Thanks! |

There’s a reason why this brand is called “B M Trouble U”. But granted, this car is more enjoyable the bigger the engine is. ;-) It just has to run trouble-free. |

seems expensive for wipers and gambling you;ll need brake pads.
"If you purchased a BMW model year 2017 or newer, your vehicle comes standard with a maintenance plan called “Ultimate Care.” Ultimate Care coverage lasts for 3 years, or when your car reaches 36,000 miles – whichever comes first. Ultimate Care coverage includes regular vehicle checks and maintenance such as oil and oil filter changes, replacement of micro filter if needed, and replacement of brake fluid if needed. At any time before your car reaches 3 years or 36,000 miles, you can upgrade to “Ultimate Care Plus.” Ultimate Care Plus includes all of the maintenance in ultimate care, plus additional services such as the replacement of specific wear and tear items like brake pads and wiper blades. Ultimate Care Plus maintenance coverage can be purchased during your first 36 months, and also can be purchased to extend your coverage past 3 years/36 months. You can extend for an additional 12 months, an additional 24 months, an additional 36 months, or an additional 48 months. We can find the plan that would work best for you and your vehicle. When you extended scheduled maintenance or upgrade, you will save up to 30% on included maintenance by paying in advance. If your BMW is an older model, or doesn’t qualify"

I don't know what the G05 will require but the E70 I just sold required brake rotors whenever I changed the pads (~40k miles), suspect the G05 will be the same. Front and rears together were about $1300. FWIW, I declined the extended service agreement when I purchased my car last week but included brake service was the pitch the finance manager gave me. However even if the rotors are included and you throw in a couple oil changes and a brake fluid flush, you still aren't anywhere near $3200 across 2 years. And to make it worth buying in advance, you'd hope to be way ahead of potential costs not hoping to just catch up. Seems like you can make the call later when you approach the end of your 3 year service agreement if you feel the car is a keeper and you get a feel for what's required. Maybe I'm missing something?

I was offered the 5/75k extended service as well. I talked them down to $2800. Because of this and the amount of miles I drive, I took it.
I bought an M50i and thought I might go through brakes more frequently. Reading through this is making me regret that decision some..

I'm not very handy, these things installed will come close to the $2800 I paid.

I was recently quoted the following for the X5 45e that is still on order: 1) $3915 for Tire/Wheel (5 years) 2) $3799 for 5-year Maintenance and 3) $6513 for 6-year VSC Warranty. I plan to keep vehicle for at least 5 years, more if no trouble. I plan to drive 15-20K a year.
Any comments or recommendations appreciated. Thanks. |

Attaching a picture of the printout. This was when we were considering purchasing the "maintenance plan" as a guy who used to do all his own maintenance, I needed the X5 to be more reliable for my girlfriend and the cost of spark plugs sold me on the level of service we got. |

As for cost, the OEM plugs are inexpensive, maybe $5-$7 each. So $45 or parts. Changing out 6 plugs on G05 (big hood with lots of space to work with), it is no more than a 30 minutes job, this is at home with barely enough tools. Dealer mechanics with proper tools, this is probably a 10 minutes job.
