Uh yeah...when I got home from picking up my new 2020 yesterday...I was sitting in my garage with the car running playing with iDrive settings...and had the same thing happen. At least I had been on the forums enough prior to purchase that I knew this might be coming.

Really appreciate this thread. My 2 week old X5M- Comp is experiencing the same intermittent A/C issues. Just sweated out a ride home and have a service appointment tomorrow.

My 2020 X5 M50 is doing the exact same thing. Started 6 weeks ago, complained to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong...told me to let the vehicle cool off for 15 when I start the car. (Hell no.) Weeks later it started happening again and didn't correct itself in 3 days so I took it back in and they kept it for 2 hours then told me they needed to order a compressor. It arrived weeks later, took it in and they kept my vehicle for 6 days. Just today they let me know that the compressor replacement wasn't approved by BMW and they did a "software update." This was today so I don't know if this fixed it or not. Couldn't be more pissed off about having intermittent A/C in the middle of the summer!

When it’s not clearly identified as a compressor issue, the dealer will have to try all soft corrections first (ex: software update) to be able to let the warranty play. I had a similar issue on my Land Rover and the compressor was not working because there was not enough liquid in the cooling system. They identified a potential small leak, filled up the system again and since then no more issue.

Having similar problems with mine as well. I just hit the Max AC button and let it run for a few minutes and then went back to Auto. Seemed to be fine. Since I'm leasing I'm not going to make a trip to the dealer. I'll mention it when I take it in for its next annual low mileage service in January.

It goes without saying but make sure you go into the menu and turn your "Vent temperature" all the way to cold. New BMW owners will miss this simple adjustment hidden inside the menu.
