Sorry for digging up old thread. I have question about front brake maybe for future maintenance purpose. Are B and C the same except B isn't painted? Can I use 395x36 disk (one comes with C) for B?

Yes to your first question. I would guess yes to the second but put no faith in that.

Ha! When I was specifying the build on my M Sport, I had difficulty finding the part numbers across the blue M Sport brakes and the non painted. I was trying to determine whether there's some major difference in replacement cost. I gave up cuz it was literally no information.

Hey all, new member here. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm looking at purchasing a 2019 X5 40i. It's currently getting shipped to my local dealer. The vehicle has both M Sport & 3AC options. Looking at the pictures from the listing, it looks like the front brakes are Index A from this post, rather than Index B which I thought comes with the 3AC package. Is what is on the car correct?? I do plan on towing with the car, so this is rather important for me to figure out. Thank you for the help

Welcome to the forum. If it has the 3AC Trailer Hitch option then you have the upgraded brakes on the front, don't worry about what they look like in the pictures.

You have the base front brakes, not the larger ones that come with a hitch option. The rears are the same for both models.

The upgraded brakes are part of 3AC so if the vehicle has 3AC it has the upgraded brakes. Unless of course the previous owner took them off.

OP - use a VIN decoder to get the options and make sure it has 3AC.

Thanks for the welcome and responses. When I used mdecoder I confirmed the VIN does list 3AC on the spec sheet. The vehicle is being offered as CPO, and was previously a 1 owner lease. I wouldn't think it would be worth the hassle of removing the Index B brakes & rotors just to replace it with the Index A brakes, but who knows.

I'll just have to wait and see when it comes in and I can lay eyes on it, and ask the sales or service department about it. Worst case I can always throw the M brake upgrade set on after the fact

I have a Canadian 22 x-line with trailer tow hitch option and just took this photo, looks like standard front brakes (sorry for dirty wheels, messy weather here).

Thanks for the pic, that helps confirm the suspicion I had. I checked a few other X5 40i listings on their lot and they all looked like they had the same base brakes...

Sure does look like they have normal brakes with the tow hitch. I would say it was a recent change but you are buying a 2019. I wonder if the upgraded brakes with the tow hitch is only for the 45e.

I would not jump into conclusion that you can just throw an m performance set on. Its a very expensive proposition. Over 4k just for the parts alone. If you must have it, buy the car with them. I settled for the standard rear and larger front of the tow hitch package and had them painted and m stickers applied under clearcoat. It looks almost as good as oem m performance. They are, of course, still smaller front and back, but the look of them is generally the same.

Okay, then it isn't just the 45e's. There must be some other option that controls whether it gets the upgraded front brakes or not. I can't believe they just randomly don't put them on some builds.

Yes, that is what we were going by but turns out there must be exceptions since folks are getting the tow hitch without the upgraded brakes.

Would you happen to know the size of the decals for front and rear? I plan to paint my plain grey calipers Estoril Blue and want to add the decal.

I too have a 2019 M-sport 40i with the 3AC and and the base brakes - curious to know why as well. Thought maybe the hitch was an add on but it’s on the window sticker, so this is how it came.

Bought mine 1-owner as well. So something is missing from the info here.

Always felt like I got ripped off for getting the blue brakes (because they are pretty) when I was also getting the tow package. Maybe that was not the case.

optioning M Sport red or blue calipers results in bigger brake rotors than the standard 45e brake rotors (aka tow package)
