depends on elevation, wind, road conditions etc. I usually get 24-25mpg at 85mph flat road between Midland and Dallas, going to 95mph I get closer to 20mpg I can test when I get home if you'd like

Don’t normally use Ecco mode but this was on a long trip with speeds averaging above 80mph.
About 23mpg. I think it’s very good for the performance and Horsepower. It is V8 TwinTurbo so fuel economy was the last spec I ever checked after ownership. Honestly, miles per tank means more to me when traveling long distances. Last edited by MystroX5; 11-20-2019 at 07:06 PM.. Reason: 4 |

numbers aside enjoy the drive if you can afford such vehicles fuel cost shouldn't matter that much.

In the US it doesn't matter. In Europe, it ABSOLUTELY matters.
Europeans pay 2x - 3x as much for gas depending on the country they are in. Then there are the road taxes associated with owning vehicles. I'm lucky.... I'm an American living in Europe, but I buy gas at American prices, and I'm exempt from all the associated taxes. I did the math once several months ago: Over a 5-year period, the average European will spend as much on a $25,000 car (once you factor in fuel, taxes, registration, etc), as an American will spend on a $65,000 car. Then, there is the fact that the cars themselves, are more expensive. I work with members from at least 14 different nations, and when I told them I was buying an M50i, a few freaked out. In the Netherlands for example, my specific car would cost over DOUBLE what I paid for it..... and that's before fuel, road taxes, etc. This is a silly question coming from an American. From a European, this question is quite valid.

So nice to leave after work and drive to Whistler for the weekend and then back without having to fill up once or worry about stretching it if getting stuck in traffic. |

Twenty-five-ish mpg is not unreasonable cruising at highway speed for these engines under ideal conditions. That said, for maximum range and efficiency in any configuration, a V8 would probably not be my first choice. There are other considerations in choices of course, and if I wanted the longest distance out of a tank I'd still be driving a diesel (a non-starter in the US for BMW right now). I remember seeing a 700 mile range after a fill up on my previous X5d.

Just to clarify..speed limit in most countries in EU is 130 km/h(82 mph....BUT in my country we have 20 percent tolerance on final speed(10 percent to measurement devices and 10 buy the traffic law...so we can drive easily 155..so 95 mph is normal cruising speed on highway.😊
