2022 X5 Touchscreen question

I have searched everywhere to find an answer and hopefully someone here can help. I bought one of the X5s without the touchscreen. I didn't think it mattered, but jumping from our 8 series to the X5 has been a pain. I talked to the people at Bimmertech and they said they can replace my current screen with an OEM touchscreen and everything would work. I am just curious if that is true. Was the touchscreen deleted because of the screen or some other chip in the vehicle. If it was just the screen, it seems I could call the dealership and order one to be installed. Bimmertech, says it is 100%, but I need more understanding of why the touchscreen was deleted and understand why this seems to be such a simple fix that no one is talking about.

Between Bimmertech's solution being so new and such a relatively few people being impacted by the touchscreen delete you may not find very many people that have taken advantage of it. I don't remember seeing anyone posting that they did. The fix is that simple, replace the screen and have the coding done. Your dealer is not allowed to do it so that is not an option.

The touchscreen delete was due to the chip inside the screen not having the touch capability.

That is what I was looking for, thanks. I just wanted to be careful it wasn't more than the chip in the screen.

A quick update.

I called the BMW dealership to see if they would do the install of the touchscreen from Bimmertech. I felt I could buy it for $1200 and have it installed at the dealership.. I felt if they did it, they wouldn't say anything about the warranty. They asked the regional rep and they said they would do it. The dealership asked me to make sure before I purchased the screen, it was a BMW OEM part #. I asked BimmerTech for the number, which they gave me, and BMW couldn't find it in their system. URG!. I have asked Bimmertech to make sure the part number was correct and I am waiting. I also asked the local BMW dealership if they could order me the screen and they quoted me $4K for the screen alone.

I can't believe the dealer said they would install it. Are you sure they will install and do the coding? Dealers generally are not allowed to do that and even if they were, don't have the software to do it. I would be very leery of the dealer doing it. I think the OEM screens are a bit over $500. Should be info in the retrofit thread.
Let us know how it turns out.

Yes, they said they would. They also said they would reprogram it for me, and make sure it would be the default. Yes, I was surprised too. They said that they haven't anyone ask about yet and wanted me to keep them in the loop so they could help other customers.

That is good. I'm fairly certain the information from BMWNA to the dealers was that they were allowed to do retrofits, perhaps that changed. Good luck with everything.

Thanks, I has searched for more information on this forum. It seems Bimmertech gave me bad part numbers. I also asked them about taking the X5 to the dealership for any service and they said there could be a possibility they could wipe the coding. To me, that is a "no go". I specifically asked the dealership if that would happen if they installed the retro fit and they said no. They also said if they installed it, there would be no questions in the future about he warranty. I am sure the cost will be more, but based on those two items, it might be worth it

What's your trade in value? I would think that you could take a very minimal loss (if any) and order another one with it included.

Bimmertech can definitely do it. They are the preeminent vendor to perform this work.

The reason the dealer will not do it is that there is no formal way to do it within warranty. It's a physical replacement plus coding

You realize bimmertech is in business to be a business and not to supply you with info to go to a dealer? Either use bimmertech (you should they are great) or don’t. But please don’t make them do work to not give them business.
