Stuck Center Console Door

Does anyone have a diagram explaining how the center console is assembled?

The sliding center console door is stuck - it only moves up about 1/4". I think what may have happened is that either the BMW rechargeable flashlight that goes into the cigarette lighter may have somehow displaced upwards and is catching on the underside of the door or the usb charging cable is fouling the door.

My thought is that I were able to find a piece of thin, flexible plastic maybe 3" wide that I could work through the opening and over the flashlight, I might be able to get the door to slide over it. Failing that, I may have to take the car to a dealer to have the center console disassembled.

Any ideas?

You can try to remove the sides and try to get in behind it. Uploading the guides on how to remove the side trim pieces and top trim plus the guide on removing the front compartment but it appears you need the lid open to get the cup holders out first. Good luck.

I'll send the guides via PM.

Thanks for the files. There's a lot going on in that center console so unless I can get something under the door to allow it to slide over the obstruction I think I'm going to have to take it to the dealer. Bummer because I doubt the warranty will cover it.

Cheers

So one other idea that has saved me a few times. Maybe get a DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope on Amazon and you can feed it into the small opening and actually see what's blocking it. It comes with attachments too so you can put the hook on it and maybe pull the obstruction out.

Yup, got one. I'm going to see if I can get the endo head into the opening tomorrow.

Great minds think alike.

Cheers

Raising this thread from the dead.

Nick, what was the final disposition of this? Did you have to go to the dealer? Did warranty cover it?

We have 2024 that has the same issue. Everything was fine until we picked it up from a hotel valet and later found the issue driving home. The only thing in our console was a container of Altoids. Period. No coins or such.

I've tried fishing a wire around under the lid and up and down the side tracks to no avail. Even tried blowing high-pressure air down the tracks while jiggling the lid hoping it woudl dislodge whatever is jamming it.

Any info would be appreciated

Hi, copb8. Yep, I gave up and took it to the dealer because the center console had be partially disassembled. Luckily, they covered the cost under warranty. The service tech said they've had a couple of instances where the plug in LED flashlight dislodged and jammed the door. I used to leave a USB/lightning cable hooked up in the port as well as that flashlight but now I never store anything in there. Cheers!

I've had this issue and did it myself.

See thread below, post #3. I'm fairly handy and it was quite fun to see how it all disassembles. A small mint tin had lodged between the bottom of the sliding cover and the cup holder. So annoying. Would only open 1/4 inch.

Thank you for the update Nick.

I guess I'll ask my service advisor's opinion on whether it's warranty work.

It's not the best design as it should not get stuck this easily. Last time I was at the dealership and this fellow had the same issue. He had left his wallet in there and then the slider won't open. Unfortunately, for him dealership didn't agree that it was a warranty issue. Hopefully, your dealership is more accommodating.
