BUT this time it is sticking for 3 days now with 2700miles on the car. Roadside assistance couldn't see it at their end and asked me to go to the dealer. Took a service appointment for next week. Hope it only needs the standard 45 second reboot to clear it up and nothing is seriously wrong.
Adding one more to the list. High Voltage Shutoff valve issue. Requires replacement, part to come from Germany, estimated repair time, 3-4 weeks.
Would I be able to ask them to take my one month lease payment off since I won't have the car for a month and loaner(i4) is NOT X5 50E?

Call BMWNA and have them open a case. They should be able to comp you a month or two of payments.

Called them and they said they have noted down the date I brought the car for service and would reimburse the amount based on the number of days the car is in service. Thanks for recommending that.

Very good. They usually wait until everything is done and then come up with an amount.

Why I decided not to get the new 50e and ordered 40i even though I really wanted to.

BMW has agreed to buy back my 2024 50e and I have a new 2025 50e on order with identical specs (except for the CELs and Drivetrain warnings, hopefully) due to arrive hopefully in mid-May.

My concern is that there appears to be no corporate discount available now (it was $1500 when I bought my '24), the interest rate through BMW is now higher (5.29% vs. 4.99%), and the MSRP has creeped up since last year. As a result, I'm looking at spending more money to get a a BMW that works, through no fault of my own.

I already reached out to BMW about helping me cover the difference though a loyalty incentive or similar, but they declined and will only offer the buy-back of "full purchase price less the amount directly attributable to the use of the vehicle," which I presume is some per-mile adjustment.

Are there any other incentives that I'm overlooking that may be coming around soon? Would I qualify for a loyalty incentive (if those even exist yet for the 2025 models)? Or do you need to trade-in a vehicle (rather than do a buy-back) in order to qualify for that?

Thanks for any advice.

Glad to hear they agreed to a buyback. It is likely that both loyalty and corporate will be available starting in April. You do not need to trade it in to get loyalty, as long as you own or owed it within the past 12 months. Keep in mind you can't combine loyalty with corporate so you will need to choose the highest one.

Any thoughts on a CPO with 8,000 miles on it? It would seem as this issue would have popped up by now?

A 50e? Maybe it HAS popped up and that’s why the original owner gave it back.

Slight update on my yellow CEL. It, ended up going away on its own after 2 days, dealership said to just 'monitor' to see if it comes back. FWIW, one thing I tried was unlocking and then re-tightening the fuel cap (as I still haven't fueled it up yet since it was delivered) and that seemed to coincide with the CEL disappearing. Most likely a coincidence, but thought I'd share.

Likely just a coincidence. My CELs also went away on their own, but dealer noted multiple faults and multiple repairs needed. I would suggest that when it comes back, you insist that they do more than just tell you to monitor it.

Yea, agreed. Next time, will just bring it in to get them to scan it. Will update here if CEL returns.

The second X5 50e I purchased recently illuminated the check engine light last Saturday. Upon visiting the dealership, I was informed that the expansion valve for the high voltage battery was defective. The dealership has placed an order for the necessary part, but there is currently no estimated time of arrival.

Regrettably, this is not the first instance of this issue. My previous X5 50e experienced the same problem, leading to a buyback from BMW. Despite this prior experience, I opted to purchase another X5 50e, a decision I am now reconsidering due to the recurrence of this issue.

Decision time

I need to make a final decision between a buy back from BMW NA or the 7 year platinum protection plan. Had the HV cooling valve replaced and got a new transmission after the drivetrain malfunction CEL. It's been ~2 months and ~1k miles since the last issue and all seems to be working well. The 50e seems to be in a class of its own when it comes to electric range, performance, comfort and price. There have been a lot of issues documented in this forum, but overall it seems like BMW is doing a relatively good job keeping everyone happy. At this point I'm leaning toward the extended warranty and trusting BMW will continue to make things right for those of us who have encountered these defects.

That was an easy choice for me. Every time I get in the car, my eyes immediately look for the warning lights. And then I remember that the underside of my vehicle was torn apart twice to replace the SME and I've not had the the use of my brand new vehicle for almost two months in total. I just don't trust this vehicle anymore and am moving on to a '25 after my buyback is complete.

Personally, I'd rather have a brand new vehicle that is a model year newer than an extra 3 year warranty. In exchange for that extra warranty, is BMW asking you to waive your lemon law rights? You could very well have additional issues in the near future that make you decide not to keep the vehicle. You should also consider if having the transmission replaced is going to affect your resale value down the road.

Has anyone heard of any design/part changes that fix these issues? I sure can't find any. I really want to order a 50e but will not until these headaches are resolved.

Welcome to the forum. Quite a few parts have been revised but so far it looks like they have not solved the issues. Given the limited production the last few months we probably will get a better idea of how things are going in the June/July timeframe.

I am choosing a new car as well, just don’t trust mine after being taking apart so much. Had a chassis warning after getting it back. Just working out the details as to whether a buy back or they will just build me a new one.
