M4 Factory dimples in rear bumper
I believe BMW has remedied the issue, but on some of the earlier production, I've noticed dimples right where the rear bumper meets the rear fender on the side of the car.
The dimples are on the rear bumper, on both sides of the car, maybe a few inches from the tire. Anyone else noticed this? Last edited by IS350; 11-29-2014 at 12:38 AM.. |

Will try to find a better pic, this is a screen grab from a video clip, it's minor, but annoying. Especially in certain light.

Bmw has notified the factory and they've remedied the problem on future M4 cars. They're also replacing this bumper and having to paint a new bumper. As I eluded, no good pic handy. But wanted others to look for this issue, on earlier models.

The dimples are just below the crease. The regional rep thinks it's either how the bumper was stored, or it's the way it was clamped in place. It's much more noticeable in person and with reflection. |

Start with your BMW maintenance manager explain to them that BMW USA is aware of this problem and they will likely send you a new bumper and have it painted at a local BMW approve body shop. The only risk you could possibly run into is a paint match issue, but that is very unlikely. Please keep us posted. And yes, this is only on M4s from what I've seen, not M3s.

Still waiting for a time to schedule a loaner while they make the swap and paint the new bumper. I noticed it at delivery and made a notation but the dealer still wanted to have a regional rep look at it. I can give you more details if your dealer gives you any resistance. The fact that BMW USA is aware of it because of my case is a good start for you and anyone else.

The OCD in me would definitely get my eyebrow twitching at this. At the same time though that is really hard for me to spot. I don't expect a dealer to do anything about this though but color me suprised if they do.

The mismatched paint is going to be a lot more noticeable than those little "dimples", you guys are crazy. I wouldn't have anyone put non factory paint on my car over such a minor imperfection.
