Squeaky noise from brake pads
Does anybody hear squeaky noise from front brakes on F85 or F86?
I have 250 km mileage now and I always hear it just before stop. |

I'm at 2100 miles - still hear it every so often. Apparently "normal" for "M" brakes.

my range rover sport did this and always bothered me because it's a common irk of owners there; I had hoped the x5M would not do this as neither my M3 or M4 had that issue; bummer to hear but not end of the world

squeaky noise from brake pads
This is a known
problem for the new M5 and M6. I have had my brakes replaced twice on my 2014 M5 and they still squeak. $111K car and the brakes are squeaky all the time. Fighting with BMW right now about the issue. Shame because the rest of the car is pretty much perfect. My assumption would be that the X5M has the same brake system. No fixes. The question I have is that if you went for a test drive of ANY car and the brakes squeaked, wouldn't you pass on buying that vehicle? Problem with this is that during the test drives there were no squeaks. It took about four months before my squeaks showed up. That was about 14K miles ago. Had to hire an attorney.... |

May be it will help you! Dealer said that only the decision to avoid squeak forever is to do additional threads (cutting) on pads. They did this on all E70 and E71 M-series cars and that's working. They sent these recommendations to BMW to improve pads, but as you see nothing happened. I will try to drive for next 200-300 miles and if strong squeak will begin again, `i will do additional threads. |

Welcome to the club......my m5 has been driving crazy and yet dealer couldn't find a resolution. I have service department telling me it's completely normal for high performance brake made by Brembo. My 911 didn't have that and the brake was Brembo made, so I don't buy that BS excuse. Good thing that I am parting away with the M5 soon enough that I just ignore the annoy noise every single time I touch the god damn brake.

At 2400 miles and beginning to get better. For a while it was terrible, but multiple reliable sources have assured me it is a well known M 'feature.'

try bedding the pads in. Why the owners manual says take it light on them for the break-in, I don't know, but every aftermarket pad manufacturer will tell you they need to be bedded in.
My friend Dave Zeckhausen has a great writeup on his site: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm bedding them in will more than likely eliminate the squealing. |

Bedding wont work on the F85 (It did on my F10) - this topic has been beaten to death like ten dead horses. Amazing they cant figure it out, and No, it is not OK because high performance brakes are supposed to do that.
Get them chamfered, if you ask your SA, they should oblige.

I had this problem with my cayenne turbo s, but solved it by buying aftermarket brake pads (posi quiet). Now it's perfect.

The pads were cheap too. EBC red stuff may be worth a try as well, I've heard good things, however I don't have any personal experience with this specific application. According to my indy, the problem with the OEM pads is there is too much steel in them.
Yea I went about a year rolling up to stop lights in my 157k (msrp) turbo s and people would always give me dirty looks. So gauche. Thing sounded like a freight train. Perhaps the most infuriating aspect of the whole thing was that the dealers kept telling me to do 4-5 hard stops in a row - all this did was warp the rotors. Anyway yea don't buy the oem brembo pads anymore. Performance is good but they sound like sh*t.
