EnLighten - An app for traffic lights
Has anyone tried this out? http://www.bmwusanews.com/newsreleas...d=2405&mid=%22. It looks like it will tell you how long till upcoming traffic lights change.

It's crap. What's the point of promoting this app when it works pretty much nowhere. Like you all, I got really excited when I saw this, then realized (after trying it out) it's unlikely to be useful any time soon.

No LA is completely crazy. Take a look at http://connectedsignals.com/cities.php for a map of connected cities. Pretty minimal, that's for sure:
Connected Signals has been received with great enthusiasm and is in active conversations with cities across the US and elsewhere. The company will be rolling out its network in several phases in the coming year as the terms of new strategic partnerships are solidified and released. EnLighten cities: Live in Christchurch, New Zealand; Portland and Eugene, OR; Salt Lake City, Provo, and Ogden, UT; Greater Las Vegas, NV; and Arcadia and Walnut Creek, CA. In beta in Melbourne, Australia and Garland, TX. Coming this summer to Palo Alto, CA Data collection under way in other cities in California and elsewhere. Many more locations to follow... |

This is what should be pushed by the EPA if they were serious about increased MPG. It drives me crazy that major metro areas can't time their traffic signals for increased fuel efficiency for the most traveled routes. I love it when I'm on a suburban road with traffic lights galore and get stuck at every red light with the 50 other cars in the pack because one car wanting to cross the flow of traffic sets off a sensor.

It may be a good thing lol. I think in LA this would cause MORE accidents with people timing green lights and other parties running the red lights. This also means an increase in vehicle speeds too with people trying to beat/time the light changes.
